If you're like me and never seemed to understand math when you were younger, got through college somehow without having to take math (except statistics) but still have to take the GRE these books are for you. Seriously, I love these books so much they've eased some of my anxiety about test taking. The set is definitely large but if you're committed to really studying, the books are very clear and have plenty of practice questions. There are lots of tricks one can use to save time on test day. I'm giving myself about 5 months to prepare because I've never done well on standardized tests. I'm on month two of these books and got through two of them completely so far. You can jump around, they're not really in order. Also, the vocabulary flash cards ( there are two sets and you have to buy separately) are great too really concise.I'm not a book learner usually, but I don't think I'll be needing a tutor as originally planned because these books are that easy to understand. It's annoying to spend over $100 on prep materials on top of the test, but I've looked at other books and feel that Manhattan are the best.

I tried using other books to study for the GRE, but these books gave the most indepth explanantions for different problem types. I also love that they not only go through the different math information, but also give you tips on how to solve problems like the quantitative comparison questions. There are tips given that help you save time and you definitely need the time on the GRE! There are drill sets and problem sets so you can gain practice through many questions. There are also example questions that the books work through step by step explaining them. If you are looking for books that clearly explain the information and make it easy to understand, these would be a good choice! There are also 6 practice tests you can gain access to online, but make sure that the book is either sold by amazon or that there is a code in the book to gain access. If not, just buy the set and then buy one additional book from amazon and you will have access. You can also use the calculator that you will have on the GRE which is good so that you can practice using that rather than a handheld one.

I did use this set of books in conjunction with a GRE prep class. Regardless I found the books to be helpful and allowed the student to be self-sufficient and still do a good job.

Great book, much better than the GRE official guide. Questions are ( I would say) 15% harder than most of those which show up on the actual GRE, so very good practice too.

I was a little skeptical when I first heard about Manhatten test prep, mainly because I had been in the realm of higher education for nearly a decade and had never heard of them, but man am I glad that I bought them. I've never been satisfied with Princeton Review, Kaplan, etc. As someone who has taken the PSAT, SAT, ACT, MCAT (Examkrackers books are great but not as good as these) and GRE, I can confidently say these are the best test prep books I've ever purchased and will highly recommend them to anyone willing to listen.

If you want to hit that top percentile, this tool is right for you. However, you do need certain determination to finish these books. I have tried many GRE practice books and they are by far the best I have tried. I will totally recommend this to those who wants to pick back up their math skills. However, this book is as friendly for those who has limited math background. :) As for the verbal, manhattan GRE is very helpful in reading comprehension. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase.

This books are saved me. I forgot some basic maths principles, I spent a lot on GRE Class but could not understand lot of the stuff. I bought this books and haven't regretted. They're expensive but you'll achieve more. You can learn on your own and pass the GRE with there books.

I decided to buy these books after studying for the GMAT with the Manhattan series. I honestly believe that these books will be of more use than a class that cost 1000+. The books all start out with the same summary of what the test is like and the new changes. Then they go into their respective fields. If you have the Manhattan GMAT series, you can basically skip all the math books in this series except the quantitative comparison book. Each book is broken into sections and each section is structured the same way. Each section begins with information that you need to learn and includes some sample problems, then you are given a problem set to do with answers on the next few pages. After all the sections of the book, you are given a huge Drill section over everything with probably around 100 problems. These books work great because they proivde the information you need and then provide a TON of problems to learn from. I scored in the 90% and above in both quant and verbal. I highly suggest these books and if your math skills are lacking, try the Manhattan GMAT math books. They are a bit harder but excellent at learning the basics.

I love David Toop and any work he's involved in. From music to academic writing, this guy knows his stuff. He's very well versed in music and has done his research thoroughly you can tell.. He has a unique way of explaining sound and its magic, definitely grab any books he's written on the subject of sound.

Nice overview of music that falls thru thecracks-great chapter on the Ambient scene inEngland in the nineties.

David Toop is both a musician and writer, having done ambient music, dub music with the likes of Prince Far I, and of course numerous written articles on ambient and experimental aspects of popular music. I'd have to say that this book is perhaps one of the definitive studies on this musical genre, covering the aesthetics, listening practica, concepts, influences, directions, and so on of this growing musical field in a very inclusive and insightful style. This is perhaps one of the best written companions to everything ambient, as well as influences on ambient music from as far afield as Sun Ra and Karlheinz Stockhausen. Anyone interested in knowing more...either in scope, or deeper within...on ambient should obtain a copy of this book.

As an eager but somewhat overwhelmed newcomer to the world of ambient music, I've found this overview to be informative & invaluable. It's constructed like many ambient pieces: layers of information & exotica that overlap, shade into one another, and in many ways recreate in prose the experience of the music. Yet at the same time, there's a clarity & focus to the writing, which becomes apparent as the reader flows from one topic to the next. By the end, I'd not only gained some real knowledge & understanding, I'd been given some excellent starting points for further exploration. An exemplary volume, highly recommended!

Incredible in many ways, Toop's book attempts to trace a quiet revolution in twentieth century music. One cannot deny the impressive breadth of his knowledge, from Stockhausen to Miles all the way to Future Sound of London and their ilk. His writing is quite often beautiful, if occasionally one feels like he is writing too many words to actually say anything.Ultimately, however, I leave the book feeling a bit underwhelmed. Ironically, it is the book's very eclecticism that works against it. I personally did not see the connectionsbetween, say, the music of Kraftwerk and Toop's (admittedly fascinating) discussion of the sound of the Amazon jungle. These disgressions ultimately make the book useless as a survey. Of course, I doubt that it was meant to be so, but Toop fails to make the kinds of connections that have given books by Greil Marcus and others a fascinating unity.Perhaps, though, this is the point. Much like the ambient music that serves as the centerpoint of the book, this book simply floats by, not asking you to make any conclusions. It is probably best read in bits, before bed or in the bathroom, where the individual moments of brilliance can be better appreciated. Very ambient, indeed.

If you like ambient, or....atmospheric music of any sort you should give this book a chance as it a nice erudite survey of the various genres and musicians that are linked to..or been influenced by ambient music. It is not a linear survey thru time, but rather this book reminds me of a map which Toop rolls around visiting here and there with a few jumps now and then as he discusses how in the last 100 years "music has reflected the world back to itself and to its listeners". The writing is enjoyable, and full of poetry, such that I kept finding myself underlining odd bits and pieces every few pages and I wound up compiling them for myself for future reference. There is also a nice bibliography and discography at the end of the book.

I love to read about music, but there are so few good music writers it seems. This book approaches the development of incidental, ambient, experimental, avant garde, and world musics in a way that mimics the music itself - with random bursts of observations, anecdotes, interviews, and just plain bizarre missives. I encourage anyone with a sense of adventure and an open mind to grab a copy. There is a similarly-titled double CD which came out to accompany the book, but I can't see it on Amazon. It is as eclectic as the book and features a lot of the artists interviewed and mentioned - Sun Ra, Aphex Twin, and others. I have played the CD to death and would recommend it. You gotta respect a compilation that puts The Beach Boys right next to African Headcharge, or My Bloody Valentine next to Brian Eno - and makes it work so well. The book also features a list of albums and artists in the appendix, which I found useful as a way of doing further research.Another book in a similar vein is Kodwo Eshun's "More Brilliant Than The Sun", though it focuses solely on the innovators in electronic music.

This is an amazing document on the sonic explorations of the last 100 years, from improv classical to backwords dub lines to the tweak tweak nob movements of our techno, this book is brought with a fun if not intoxicating writing style. the ending of this book is getting even better with jungle sounds (the nature not the genre)

Review

"A fascinating and revealing journey through the real-life dynamics of the creative process. Vividly written and bustling with examples from comedy to architecture, "Little Bets" is a wonderful example of itself: a big idea that takes shape through many small discoveries. I highly recommend it for anyone with a serious interest in cultivating creativity in business, education or in their own lives."""Little Bets" is a timely and compelling book that will change the way you think, a roadmap to success in the 21st century. And, a very enjoyable read."--Peter Georgescu, former CEO of Young & Rubicam"I have always believed that constant innovation is core to success. The methods Peter Sims provides in the highly engaging "Little Bets" will help you challenge the status quo and discover extraordinary new possibilities in whatever endeavor you're engaged in."--Howard Schultz, chairman and CEO, Starbucks"Want a big idea? Start little. Whether you're an entrepreneur or an artist, Peter Sims shows you how big breakthroughs start with little bets."--Chip Heath, author of Switch: How to Change Things When Change is Hard"I really can't say enough about this book;" Little Bets" rings so true to my own experience at Teach For America. Peter Sims does a huge service by showing the world how big entrepreneurial and innovative successes come to be -- and in the process reveals ways of thinking that aren't the product of anything elusive or enigmatic but rather of traits we can all learn and foster, such as openness, inquisitiveness, and perseverance."--Wendy Kopp, CEO and Founder, Teach for America"Peter Sims buries the myth that big talkers with brains and big ideas move industry and science forward. This modern masterpiece demonstrates that the most powerful and profitable ideas are produced by persistent people who mess with lots of little ideas and keep muddling forward until they get it right. "Little Bets" is easily the most delightful and useful innovation book published in the last decade."--Robert I. Sutton, Professor, Stanford University, New York Times bestselling author of Good Boss, Bad Boss"With examples that range from traditional businesses to stand-up comedians, Peter Sims shows that the path to big success is lined with small failures. Behind every breakthrough idea is often a host of experiments that flopped -- and Sims shows how to leverage these "little bets" to produce lasting results. This is a powerful and practical book."--Daniel H. Pink, author of A Whole New Mind and Drive"In "Little Bets", Peter Sims convincingly argues that we need a new model of creativity, focused around gradual improvement and constant innovation. If you're not learning while doing, Sims points out, then you're probably doing it wrong."--Jonah Lehrer, author of How We Decide"Peter Sims' exciting new book, "Little Bets", is replete with stunning insights about innovation and the remarkable benefits of backing many creative initiatives that yield the big breakthrough. Corporate leaders everywhere can benefit from his sound advice."--Bill George, Professor, Harvard Business School and Author, True North"'Little Bets' is a big idea. Here's my bet: if you're passionate about innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship, you need to read this book!"--Alan M. Webber, Co-Founding Editor, Fast Company magazine, Author, Rules of Thumb

I am a student at the University of Baltimore and I had to read this book for a survey entrepreneurship class. I will have to say the book started off pretty decent. It had a good introduction on how Chris Rock prepared for his comedy shows. The books running theme was you learn while doing, but also while failing. A lot of the examples used mentioned how there were several experiments done and mistakes made before they reached their ultimate goal. The book was short but seemed wordy, not a very interesting read but a necessary one for entrepreneurs. The story of Pixar was the most interesting. Pixar had several small wins and even though they had some major flops, they were still able to keep reinventing themselves until they had their breakthrough with animation. I think the author did a great job at delivering the realities of starting a business. He made it a point to mention, through several examples, that it is not all about the large wins, and that sometimes you have to accept small victories and keep progressing forward. He also suggest that setbacks and failures are all a part of the process. I think the book is a good book to read for future entrepreneurs who are finding it hard to find their breakthrough. His emphasis on the experimenting and innovation being key in the success of the business was also a key message throughout the book. The book is definitely geared towards innovative, creative and resourceful individuals who are interested in starting their own business.

When I was first assigned this book, I was a bit hesitant about the content and what it could offer me. As a young entrepreneur, there are always some parts of doubt we have with ideas and the contents that could make or break us. Aspiring entrepreneurs and even existing entrepreneurs should look into it. I learned interesting information about Steve Jobs and Chris Rock that I wasn’t aware of. I have a better appreciation of their crafts and what it took to get where they are today. You will learn to appreciate your failures because they make for a better story and good feedback to fix what wasn’t right in the first place. From learning how militant individuals make their strategic moves with different approaches to conquer constraints in the war. Throughout the book you learn that some people depend on luck like Tim Russert’s experience to the big screen with “Meet the Press”. He believed he could “learn a lit bit from a whole lot of people.” His Knowledge that he learned along the way and persistence got him where he is today. There wasn’t anything that I didn’t like about this book. Which is a first for me due to the fact that I don’t usually engage in personal reading outside of assignments. It made me want to reach out and look for more books to prepare me mentally.I am a current student at University of Baltimore taking Entrepreneurship course and this was my recommended reading.

"The writers for the humor publication the Onion, known for its hilarious headlines, propose roughly six hundred possibilities for eighteen headlines each week," reports Peter Sims in his fascinating book, Little Bets. That's just a three percent success rate for headline writers. Yikes. Or maybe not yikes.Subtitled, "How Breakthrough Ideas Emerge From Small Discoveries," we quickly learn--through dozens of mini-case studies--that innovation comes through hard work, experimentation and bosses who are cheerleaders for failure. (And I would also guess innovation happens with a healthy dose of weekly staff encouragement, motivation and hoopla-type fun. I mean, what if your best headline ideas were ranked 19th each week?)Example: Comedian Chris Rock tests, tests and re-tests every joke--and every word--for up to six months (or even a year) at his local comedy club before he takes his hour-long act on the road or on national television.Example: Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has built an "experimental discovery mentality" so that "whether or not employees are doing so is a part of their performance reviews."The author adds, "Like Chris Rock, Bezos has accepted uncertainty; he knows that he cannot reliably predict which ideas for new markets will work and which won't. He's got to experiment. One such example is a feature the company launched that would compare a customer's entire purchase history with its millions of other customers in order to find the one person with the closest matching history. In one click, Amazon would show you what items that customer purchased."`No one used it,' Bezos has said. `Our history is full of things like that, where we came up with an innovation that we thought was really cool, and the customers didn't care.'"It's all about making a series of little bets--not one humongous bet--just little ones with the hope that just a couple will pay big dividends. "Experimental innovators like Rock, Brin and Page, Bezos, and Beethoven don't analyze new ideas too much too soon, try to hit narrow targets on unknown horizons, or put their hopes into one big bet. Instead of trying to develop elaborate plans to predict the success of their endeavors, they do things to discover what they should do. They have all attained extraordinary success by making a series of little bets."The book surprised me. I expected cute little success stories like, "Well...I just flipped the spaghetti onto the wall--and it stuck!" Instead, the innovators of little experiments were actually productive creative teams of "rigorous, highly analytical, strategic and pragmatic" people. There are no step-by-step formulas.Instead, there is a focus on five fundamentals: 1) Experiment (fail quickly to learn fast); 2) Play (a fun environment never snuffs out or prematurely judges the ideas--the case study on Pixar is amazing); 3) Immerse (get out with customers and learn from the ground up); 4) Reorient (make small wins and necessary pivots); and 5) Iterate (repeat, refine and test frequently).Caution though: this approach is a 180 plunge from what the profs taught us. He quotes Sir Ken Robinson, "We are educating people out of their creativity." Plus, most management approaches are all about reducing errors and risk--not giving license to having a good whack at a half-baked idea. Goodness, this is God's money we're wasting!So...is this just one more niche business book--a good read, a few memorable stories--and then back to real-life-in-the-trenches? Hopefully, no. Leverage the insights of Little Bets in your planning process--with one mega-caveat. "The fact is that much of what we would like to be able to predict is unpredictable. Global market movements, political and cultural complexities, and demographic shifts constantly reshape the ground beneath us. This certainty of uncertainty is becoming ever more evident with the accelerating pace of technological change. The Internet has reduced communications barriers and allows new players from different corners of the world to rapidly emerge and compete globally. Thus a key flaw with the top-down, central planning approach is how limited it is in allowing us to be limber and able to discover new ways of doing things."Yikes...I've exceeded my prudent word limit--but I have another 100 paragraphs or whole pages of Little Bets highlighted you'll have to discover for yourself. BTW, I read this on my new Amazon Kindle--and love the highlighting and note-making options. Perfect for airplanes; but not as easy to pass around the room during my workshops and board consultations! I'm still undecided about it.

#243 Paid in Kindle Store (See Top 100 Paid in Kindle Store)

This book can't decide if it wants to be a police procedural, a Harlequin romance, or a Stephen King horror story. The writing is startlingly uneven and riddled with factual errors. It goes along like a perfectly decent murder mystery for a time, but then you hit some jarring error like the tide going out when it needed to be coming in (to cut off access to the tidal island); or the attraction between the two lead characters veers off into ridiculous internal dialogue or bodice-ripping action; or a seemingly decent, sympathetic character is revealed to be a drug-using Satan-worshipper. I began to wonder whether three different authors had alternated sections, challenging each other to find a way to continue the narrative after ever-more-bizarre plot turns. The plot becomes progressively more preposterous as it goes along, generating lots of eye-rolling on the part of this reader, and culminates in a cartoon-ish last-second rescue (on a dark and stormy night!). The mystery is that whole sections are written quite competently, and I have to think that with the help of a good editor, this could have been a dramatically better book.

There are so many wonderful detective series that are well-written and rewarding but this is not one of them. Please spare me the impossibly good looking detective who immediately falls in love with the impossibly good looking potential victim in the middle of ridiculous melodrama and kinky rituals. So sorry I purchased this.

I am a long time mystery reader, but this book like many current mysteries wasn't worth the money. I look for good character development and a good sense of place. This story had neither. The attempts at twists were weak and the ugliness of serial murders holds no interest to me. I didn't finish the book.

I’m cross posting this review for all 7 books in the series as I read them back-to-back. Detective Chief Inspector Ryan is the star of this series, although there are several fantastic supporting characters as well. The first book introduces you to the main characters, their flaws and strengths, as well as the Northumbrian landscape. This author clearly knows the territory in which her books take place and does a beautiful job of describing each location, so much so, that I’ve put the region on my “must visit” list. Each book is a fast paced journey to find the criminal and bring him or her to justice. They’re sprinkled with the emotional details, trials and tribulations of the characters’ lives, which makes each of them real and believable. I had a very difficult time putting each and every one of these books down and now that I’ve finished the last one, I’m desperate for the next…Typically I receive books for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review, however this is a verified purchase. See all our reviews at our Book Explosions page on Goodreads.

I finished the book, so I have to grant that there was suspense enough to keep me going. Thought the romance was contrived and silly. Ryan is portrayed as very sexist, both in his initial reaction to the heroine and to the female lawyer who plays a small part. Gory murders are well described. The epilogue turned me off reading any more in the series both because I'd suspected the two bad guys early on, and because I didn't enjoy the Paganism enough to read more. Not a bad writer, just not a story line or characters I care to follow.

Aside from wanting to smack a female character for being such a head strong twit, this book was really slow reading. And I think I may have missed a clue or two because I was lulled into near coma by the pace. I figured out who did it, I figured out why, and was satisfied when the pace finally picked up and DCI Ryan closed in. The last pages ruined the entire book for me. I hated the twist. I may have missed the clues, but that doesn't help. Last pages are not the place for nasty discoveries. After a couple days thinking about it, I went back and dropped the score to one star. I remember the good books I've read. But I will also remember this nasty, rotten, surprise on the last pages.

What a pity this author doesn't get a decent editor. She clearly has talent, which is being wasted writing this kind of rubbish. Developed better as a detective murder mystery it could have been OK - but this is a fruit salad of murder/romantic rubbish/horror. It all gets a bit much when almost every character turns out to be weird and sinister. The two main protagonists are (so ho-hum predictably) absolutely gorgeous (but naturally not vain) and want to rip each other's clothes off from the start. Even after seeing badly disfigured bodies their libido cannot be suppressed. They are both a pain in the butt.I would also seriously suggest that the author take some time to research the differences between the words "which" and "that", and that she tries to get over her obvious fetish for the former, WHICH she applies with abandon and very little discernment.Unfortunately I downloaded three of her books. This is the he first I have read, so I will just have to hope that she took some of her reviews to heart and improved her work before she wrote the next two books.

This is a good read with some surprises and interesting characters. Took me a while to get into it but was hooked about halfway through. The North East of England has become a hotbed of Crime Writing with authors such as Ann Cleeves (Vera stories), Mari Hannah and Howard Linskey. A bit like "Nordic Noir" but in England instead of Scandanavia.Northumbria is a beautiful area with amazing places such as Holy Island the location of this book. Over a thousand years of history from the Romans, through Venerable Bede to the present day can be found in places such as Hadrians Wall (inspiration for the wall in Game of Thrones) Lindisfarne and Durham Cathedral.I recommend reading "The King of the North" by Max Adams as a way to get a sense of the history. Also the central character in Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Chronicles comes from Bamburgh Castle.

Homiletics and Hermeneutics

From the Back Cover

Experienced preachers and teachers Scott Gibson and Matthew Kim bring together four preaching experts--Bryan Chapell, Kenneth Langley, Abraham Kuruvilla, and Paul Scott Wilson--to present and defend their approaches to homiletics."This book surfaces what is unconscious, and sharpens what is fuzzy, in our approach to preaching--namely, the theological and hermeneutical underpinnings that subtly shape our sermons. Four authors cogently argue for their approach and graciously interact with others. Nuggets of wisdom, insights, and felicitous expressions abound. A stimulating and profitable book!"--Donald R. Sunukjian, Talbot School of Theology, Biola University "A team of outstanding preachers and teachers of preaching demonstrate four approaches to the task of hermeneutics in service of preaching. Since interpreting the text is a necessary step in the preaching process, this useful volume will help preachers approach that step with greater understanding and effectiveness."--Michael Duduit, executive editor, Preaching magazine; dean, Clamp Divinity School, Anderson University"An interesting and provocative conversation between four professor-practitioners of preaching, illuminating the strengths of each one's approach to the biblical and theological roots of preaching while graciously naming the weaknesses. This book equips readers to understand their own inclinations in hermeneutics and homiletics and enables them to identify the inclinations of others. Helpful and clarifying."--Mary S. Hulst, college chaplain, Calvin College"I don't know why this book hasn't been written already--it is such a vital topic for preachers--but it is certainly welcome now. It is a model of clarity and courteous debate among those who long to preach the word of God in a faithful, lively fashion today. Worth reading and pondering slowly."--Derek Tidball, former principal, London School of Theology"Gibson and Kim have gathered four respected voices in contemporary preaching that we seldom hear together. Anyone familiar with the recent decades in homiletics will recognize that some preachers are sequestered within a certain tradition but not heard outside that tradition. This innovative and unprecedented volume gives us a quartet of viewpoints never heard in exactly this way. It will spark discussion and response in the academy and the pulpit."--Joel C. Gregory, George W. Truett Theological Seminary, Baylor University

#12,932 in Books (See Top 100 in Books)

I didn't read this book when it first came out , I didn't have the interest. However, we lost our youngest daughter to suicide 16 months ago. When friends of mine saw the movie, they posted on fb how good it was. I decide I would read the book. My heart has ached for the things written in this book. God is good, and healing comes as we forgive and give God the things we cannot control. This is a wonderful book I would recommend to anyone. I'm so glad I read it.

I, a long-time born-again believer, was warned NOT to read this book by brothers and sister in the Faith. For many months, I heeded their "wisdom"; I'm not usually a submissive person to others, so, I was proud of myself for listening. I didn't even listen to "Restoring The Shack" on tv, so as not to be tempted or swayed--until yesterday. Then, I had to buy this book. I've never feared reading any book in my life; in fact, I've always loved and consumed as many as I could get my hands on since before I could read. So, I found it--and myself--absurd in NOT reading it! No book could ever change my Faith in Jesus, nothing is a threat to that, and I was raised with all kinds of knowledge of other religions, superstitions, and even occult things. So, I KNOW lies when I hear them. As a result, I've just finished reading The Shack. Talk about perfect timing! All it did was reinforce what I already know for many years, and the author put into words what I could never express. THANK YOU! I'll be encouraging others to read it. God bless!

I chose a 5 star rating because that is the highest rating you can give on Amazon. The Shack truly deserves more, much more. After reading this book I feel extremely blessed that God chose me to read it. The way this book is written really hits home, if you are having doubts about your faith then this is the book that will help you find a way to seek out God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Probably the worst book I have ever read! The overall message will turn me away from, not toward, God and religion. SPOILER ALERT: Yes, as a parent, one would still most likely love their child even if they committed a heinous act. But also, as a parent, if you can see your child about to commit a heinous act or acts and you have the power to stop it, but do not, you are the worst possible kind of parent and as culpable as the child regarding the act! Shame on anyone who thinks that any reprehensible act should be forgivable. I am appalled that so many people think the book has a positive message! It made me angry and terrified at what the world has become.

I have read this book twice...it is very helpful to people stuck in unforgiveness...it is theologically edgy but IMHO not in what is stated but in what is omitted...But in fairness the book is aimed at a singular issue and not intended to be a 'book of theology.' It's sole purpose is to help people see that God as love in our suffering rather than one distant and harsh. It also points clearly to the necessity of forgiving others in order to go forward in our relationship with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Also IMHO it beautifully portrays the different aspects of a living relationship with each.

Loved the book, then went to see the movie. Slightly different ending in the movie, but lovely story. Please do yourself a favor and read the book and see the movie. I think you will be glad you did. Forgiveness of others and especially of self are big themes along with a new perspective on your view of who God is. Get to meet Jesus and the Holy Spirit for a humorous and poignant story.

This book was more than I expected in a good way. The timing of it was wonderful (I didn't realize there was a movie in the making as well) but it offered a lot of insight and affirmed a lot of my own questions. Helped me through a personal struggle with myself, my role as a wife and mother among my other roles and gave me amazing insight and internal motivation. Definitely planted a seed in my heart. Great read.

The Shack first came into my life as the movie. Watching the movie earlier this Year touched my heart during a time when I was moving into a new chapter of my life or should I say chapters. Almost eleven years since I've lost my husband and two years since retirement. The Shack is so brilliantly written and enhances my faith in "Papa". Everyone who has lost a love one or been touched by the life of someone who has lost a love one should read this book. Everyone who has questions about having a relationship with God should read this book. I had to read the book after the movie. Of course, I wish it were the other way around. Everyone should read this book. I shall read it again and again. Thank you for this amazing work of art.
