I read The One Minute Manager years ago, and I recognize many of the same principles in this book. At the time of the first reading, I was in supervision/management. Currently I am a trainer, but it is amazing how many of the principles taught in this book can be applied to my job today.While the principles are essentially the same, I find myself referring to Lew Brown, who said "It's always good to be reminded of what we know." This book was a great reminder of a positive method to build an effective organization. The authors have updated the information and it fits well in today's world.If you haven't read any One Minute Manager books before, you will not find a quicker way to gain some easy-to-understand yet extremely important skills. Five stars.

I read the original One Minute Manager multiple times back in the 80s while working at my first serious job. I’ve threaded my way through a lot of organizations and managers since then, but as I read this new, updated version I found the same foundational principles enhanced to be applicable to business cultures today with different structures, flexible work arrangements, and technology that didn’t exist 30 years ago. Instead of letting the individuals know about the mistake and just a mistake, the one minute manager job here is to redirect them on to the appropriate path. He calls it tough but good. It's a short read and if you're looking for something to kill an afternoon or two and perhaps see things from a different point of view it's a classic.

I bought this for my niece in PhD research program at major university who gets no guidance on time management. So she is overly stressed. This book can help her and anyone reduce life stress setting goals and focusing daily on those goals.

For any manager this is the book to purchase. It is a great way to find a way to give your people feedback, correction, and redirection in a manner that doesn't always have to be formal and takes...literally a minute. I have used this in managing the 45 people I manage. It works well and takes the pressure I felt in the past to make feedback too formal.

The One Minute Goal! The more important the position, the less valuable this concept becomes. Assuming everything remains the same, I prefer an individual with integrity. Only for routine jobs could a series of One Minute Goals be set. And if a series of goals can be set, when will a robot do that job. For a manager or executive, you need a feel for what needs to be accomplished and the integrity to do it properly.Second, criticizing an individual, per the One Minute redirect, is also a bad idea. It is the employee review done more frequently. Instead, find employees doing things right. Offering to show them a simpler or faster way of doing things is positive teaching. Who wants to be criticized?To me, it seems as if the New One Minute Manager is in danger of not knowing what is really happening in his organization. It is better to manage by wandering around (MBWA). Ask your people how you can make their job easier. Find out what the issues are (not to solve them) so you can better understand what they are facing.Maybe, since I'm now retired (CFO, COO, Army officer), the simplistic views of success are not as appealing as they once were.

I read the original One Minute Manager that focused on mentoring the staff (give feedback often, keep it short and to the point, be specific, public praise, private conversation when addressing negative issues). Simple, but something a lot of managers do not do. This one is marketed to adapt to the millennials, the conversations did get a bit tedious but overall a good message.

the effective manager is more actionable. this one seems oversimplified for me. The story is just to lazy and cheap.Ideas are good just the format didn't work for me
