I love this cookbook. I first purchased it somewhere else and found it on Amazon. I have given 4 books and recommend this book to anyone who wants to eat healthier or needs too. My friends and I are sharing pics and texting how it tastes, looks, etc. So far so good. My hubby has several major health issues and this has been a welcome change in his diet. It is also helping control his sugars, carbs, sodium, etc.and I have lost a couple of pounds. Would highly recommend this cookbook. It also contains educational information, pantry lists, so very helpful. Just love it.
This cookbook is one of the best that I have purchased. I like the fact that there are low calorie, low carb, and low fat meals to choose from. What also is great is that the recipes are easy and not time consuming. I am a busy mother and don't have much time to cook during the weekdays. I am able to choose a meal from this cookbook and prepare it easily and within a half an hour for the majority of the meals. Also, what's good is that it lists all of the calorie, fat, carbs, etc information at the bottom of each recipe and provides you with pictures for a lot of the meals that are contained within this cookbook. Even my 7 year old is able to help me to prepare meals. They are that easy!!!
First, let me say that this book is not related to the diet book with a similar name by Michelle May. I'm mentioning that because I bought it because I thought it tied into the diet book. The two books are not related in any way except having too- similar titles. That being said, I love this book. I bought the hard cover book rather than the Kindle version, and it is a beautiful book . The paper , layout, and photographs are top quality. There are many full color photos, though not t of every recipe. My diabetic husband is very picky and hesitant to try anything new or even vaguely exotic. He could and has eaten the same bland dinner every night. I am more adventurous, but have been resistant to trying recipes that use artificial sweeteners. However we both need to lose weight. It's been very difficult to find any recipes that I like and are still suitable for him. I finally "saw the light" and realized I had to make some big changes if I hoped to lose weight. So I committed to using low sugar products, and sugar substitutes, and he committed to being open to try new foods. And this book really does it all for us. Every recipe I've tried has been successful, we both have liked it, and we are both losing weight. I use these recipes for dinner but you could plan all 3 meals a day plus snacks, sides, and desserts from this book; it covers everything. The recipes have been flavorful and interesting, yet not too far out of the range of familiar. This is not a beginner's " I don't know how to boil water" cookbook. You do need to have basic cooking skills like sautéing, making a sauce in the pan, how to follow a recipe, how to measure and mix ingredients for bakingPros: lots of recipes for everything-beverages, desserts, breads and muffins; all the recipes use common ingredients, nothing exotic, expensive or hard to find; there is detailed nutritional information; the recipes are suitable for diabetics as well as those who want to lose weight.Cons: many recipes use prepared foods including Splenda, canned soups etc. ( this wasn't a con for me but could be for anyone who wants to use all natural ingredients); this book is are probably not for people with particular requirements like food allergies, vegan, gluten intolerance etc.
I feel sorry for this woman's family. I've tried a couple recipes so far and was especially looking forward to the mac and cheese - the amount of sauce to noodles was WAY off (I doubled the noodles and still felt I had too much sauce once it cooled and thickened) and tasted only of evaporated milk. Yuck! If you are looking for low sugar or diabetes prevention type recipes, find another recipe book - or prepare to suffer these healthy "alternatives".
I was looking for a cookbook that would allow me to eat my cake or cookies even though I am working to reduce sugar in my diet. I was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes (can't remember the exact name but that's close enough) and have been trying to reduce my sugar intake.Thankfully I've always loved Splenda in my iced tea and thanks to Eat What You Love: More than 300 Incredible Recipes Low in Sugar, Fat and Calories I am able to use Splenda to create luscious desserts. Tonight we enjoyed a delicious chocolate cake for dessert. The recipe used dark brown sugar, Splenda, cocoa, corn oil, buttermilk, egg and vanilla to stir up a rich tasting cake without as many calories or sugar content. As I don't normally keep cake flour in the cupboard I used my usual substitution which is to add 1 tablespoon cornstarch to a scant cup of all-purpose flour. Worked fine in this recipe as the cake turned out tender and moist.I've also made her recipe for soft-batch chocolate chip cookies which everyone really, really liked. I took some of these cookies to share at my doctor's office and the medical staff raved about how delicious the cookies were. They couldn't believe the cookies were made from a reduced sugar and fat recipe.I highly recommend this book as it provides a wide selection of reduced sugar and fat recipes. Another bonus is the how the recipes are relatively low in calories.Recommend.
I love Marlene's books, I have 3 more of her cookbooks. I like that breakfasts and lunches are included. The nutritional information is provided so you can figure out smartpoints like I have been doing. She does use some artificial ingredients in some recipes but I could actually find the ingredients at my supermarket, I have had other cookbooks where some ingredients are impossible to find. Overall, an awesome cookbook.
