Excellent book, I own my own shop and I am the only employee!. This book should be used in the schools or in classes teaching machining. This book will stay with in arms reach in my shop. There is great practical information in this book and will with either add or remind you of better ways to work! Work Smart Not Hard!

This is a great book to flip through, even for the seasoned machinist. There are a bunch of tips, tricks, and stories within these pages, and even though we bought it as a parting gift for our machinist intern, the shop seniors couldn't put it down.

recommended by a machinist who is a machinist for 40 years . This is the only book he took on vacation.I ordered it on Friday and it came Monday . I under stand why. a good book

This guy obviously is a real machinist and knows his stuff. Use the look inside, it lets you see the first couple things in every chapter, if that doesn't convince you to buy either you are already a machining genius, or an arrogant chump who thinks you have nothing to learn. Some of the things in here I knew already, many I did not. This is in my opinion an essential book for any machinist who wants to make sure they are accurate and productive (i.e., making money, not rejects).

My (small) shop tends to either be silent or cranking full tilt under a tight deadline. This book contains a ton of good advice for those frantic times, and while it's hard to say for sure I'd guess it's saved at least one project from deadline-related failure. Awesome resource.

Some info I had already learned the hard way, other tid bits were a "face palm" producing moment in solving problems I have had for quite some time. Very helpful for my hobby of metal fabrication.

My school instructor had it as 2nd most recommended book for the machinist/CNC course, so I bought it after I was done at least reading through the first textbook. So far have just jumped around in the book, as projects come up, but found the CNC chapter15 to be quite helpful on CNC projects, pointing to computer programs and resources that we did not have time to cover in the classroom. Illustrations quite helpful, language is straightforward, just like having a civilized mentor--rather than an ornery, hard bitten machinist applying a snapping turtle coaching technique. It seems to me that someone gave considerable thought to the illustrations, which you will appreciate if and when you bring the book to the shop. Definitely a good investment, IMO, if you're serious about improving your skills. Lots to learn.Pic below is from CNC project I worked on for the vertical mill.

I’m a huge fan of Nora’s....her writing. Her podcast. Her humor. She has the ability to make me laugh while crying. I listened to the whole thing in a day. So glad she narrated!

Never have I before laughed, cried and said OUT LOUD "Amen" while reading a book. All of that happened within the first 3 pages! If you've lost your love, know someone who has or are just trying to be a more understanding decent human being... who likes to laugh.... and sometimes cry BUY THIS BOOK!

It's amazing how sometimes a book can just hit you at the right time. No Happy Endings did that for me. This is a book I needed to be reading tonight, and I was reading it because Nora mailed me a copy and maybe I also needed that surprise act of genuine kindness. (Honestly, it's going to take me months to stop being excited that I own a book signed by #ralphiegrams. Note this wasn't in exchange for review, literally just a super nice gift.)This book is about persisting, and loving, and people. It's about religion and feminism. But it's also funny? And entertaining? Except then you might cry. Basically: this book covers some ground. I think it's similar in feel to It's Okay to Laugh, while perhaps more often taking a big picture view of things (e.g., dating, gender norms, grieving). I did find No Happy Endings to be a bit better written (which feels like a slam on the first book, though it's not! Read that one too). Both these books hit me. It's like if Oprah were 3 decades younger; lost her baby, dad, and husband in short succession; and had a tendency to ramble. (Yes, that's absolutely a high compliment.)There's a lot packed into this one (< 300-page) book but I hope what really cuts through is that loss is not something to "get over." Like, when someone dies, it's not as if they never existed. And if you're happy a year later, it's not as if you're no longer sad they died. As Nora puts it, there are "multitudes included in all our experiences." (She says a lot more, but I don't want to ruin the reading experience for you.) This memoir comforted me, made me reflect, and taught me - all while being engaging. Highly recommend.

We are currently producing Aric's script in our little community theater in rural TN. The show has generated a great deal of excitement in the community and solid ticket sales already. The script is well written and captures Bram Stoker's original story well. It has many characters and could be scaled up or down with double casting. Aric has been wonderful to work with in licensing the script for production and I would highly recommend working with him if you are considering staging a version of Dracula.

I am currently directing Bram Stoker's Dracula using this script by Aric Cushing, and we are about to open in three weeks at the Warren Arts Theater in McMinnville, TN. The script has a great pace, optional lines written in Romanian, and most importantly includes all of the classic characters - especially Quincey! The author has been very flexible and accommodating in terms of allowing us to exercise artistic freedom. The rights are also incredibly affordable - it will not cost you thousands of dollars to produce this play. I highly recommend it!

This is probably the closest to Bram Stoker's novel than any play or movie. For that alone, this play deserves to be produced and seen. It does require a good director or set designer to accommodate the many scenes but out of all the other adaptations, this one is the most loyal. It also nails the Dracula character as Bram Stoker wrote him. Kudos.

I play Mr. Swales in this play at Warren Arts in Warren County Tennessee. It moves quickly and it is a classic. It is perfect for Theater. When you add a sound track or live music it delivers a lot of power to the audience.

I play Simmons in the Warren Arts production of Dracula! Being Huge fans of the original story by Bram Stoker. I can say without a doubt it is the best adaptation of the original work. Would highly recommend.

My son is playing the role of “The Telegram Boy” in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. He is enjoying being a part of this well written show. I have had the chance to sit in on rehearsals and have immensely enjoyed this story as it unfolds. Can’t wait to see it when it opens in a few weeks. It has our small town excited to come see!!

Love it, the patter between all the characters is wonderful. Recommend it to anybody who wants to learn more about Dracula!

I am giving it 4 stars out of five only because I would expect more in depth coverage of certain topics, for example, the chart section lacks details and RegExp are barely covered (hidden inside the string handling chapter). Although 50-100 additional pages with more advanced recipes are missing from this book, it's still a valuable resource for anybody already familiar with CFML

In the first couple of pages on string manipulation, I learned tips I could use today. They move quickly into arrays and structures (a challenge for most beginners!) If you're building an application for the first time, the techniques and advice offered throughout will give you working code to build and expand upon.One section is devoted to database interaction including a simple SQL database you can build to run examples and separate coverage of stored procedures in both MS SQL Server and Oracle. Each recipe is described in a short sentence, making it easy to determine whether it's the one you're looking for, followed by the technique with one or more examples and further comments. There's no wasted text.Especially interesting to me are the chapters detailing use of the new XML tags and functions and interoperability with JSPs and Servelets. An excellent list of resource websites is included as an appendix. This book is a great companion to your CFML Reference guide. The only improvement would be to make it a fatter, more detailed book!The cookbook is one of Sams Developer's Library editions, specializing in providing practicing programmers with a core reference to assist them in common day-to-day programming tasks. This is the first time I've read through a "developer's cookbook"-style book, and I must say I like the format. If you already have a basic knowledge and just need some tips on how to be more productive, you can start flipping through the pages, pick out a problem/solution combination that you like, and start looking at the code and comments to see what's going on. The reading is very easy to understand, and the code samples are equally as useful to follow.I'd say all of the recipes provided are very much applicable to real world scenarios, and since the authors are CF professionals you know you're learning from the best. I haven't made it through the entire book yet, but the little snippets I've picked out so far have helped me that much more at my job.I don't know if a version of this book is coming out for CF 8, but I'd say this book is worth it nonetheless.

It's not very often that I find myself reading a cookbook from beginning to end, but I did on this one. Despite having three authors, it's very well organized and easy to read, with a simple and consistent presentation for each of the recipes or topics. It makes a good reference companion book for ColdFusion developers, whether mere beginners or more experienced experts. Only some 300 pages long, it is definitely concise but thorough, in contrast to some other weightier, but not necessarily better, books on ColdFusion. I wish it had appeared years ago for previous versions of ColdFusion.

I find this book to be a very useful resource -- it has an extensive index and table of contents that are helpful when I'm looking for a specific topic. While the book is not organized in a sequential, "learn from the start" order, I find that its recipe format, with descriptive section headers, often prompts me to explore new topics and learn more about aspects of the technology that I haven't used in the past. Each recipe includes a Technique section with code examples, and then a Comments section that discusses the code in easy-to-understand English. I would recommend this book to anyone doing anything that involves ColdFusion.

As a person with English as a second language, some content in the users guides that comes with the software can be tricky to understand. This book saves my hair! Even though the content is easy to understand, I was hoping to cover the more CFMX specific new features, especially Flash Remoting. There was no mention of that feature in the book.Overall, advanced developer probably won't get much new out of this book, but beginner and intermediate programmer will have this as a great and easy to understand resource.

This book's strength is that it is extremely task-oriented. Readers will find clear information about how to do a variety of specific tasks in Cold Fusion, such as searching a verity collection or creating a java CFX tag.Readers looking for information about how to build full-fledged applications may not be entirely satisfied with this book, as it isn't set up as a tutorial. The book would be a perfect companion to a more exhaustive tome -- it's a nice "quick reference" guide when you need a refresher on how to do a discrete task.

An Entertaining ReadI suppose I have read everything Wilbur Smith has ever written and have enjoyed most of it. RIVER GOD was no exception although he has deviated from his usual stories that have Africa as their theme, to Egypt – and ancient Egypt at that in the time of the pharaohs.The story is related through the eyes of a slave, Taita, a brilliant and compassionate man who is the advisor to Queen Lostris. The book contains all the old favourites of Smith’s novels – revenge, bravery, love, and slaughter interspersed with swathes of facts that must have sent his research team into paroxysms of despair. All well worth it as the reader will learn much of the customs and culture of ancient Egypt.An excellent light read although the editor needs a slap on the wrist (I read this on Kindle so I don’t know if that makes a difference) as there were many typos and spelling errors. Words were joined together (no space between them) and this was especially noticeable in the second half.However despite this annoyance, RIVER GOD was a good read and Smith has lived up to his reputation yet again.

If you like historical fiction, you'll love this book!!Very descriptive in detail of events during that time of history.The people come alive and you feel as tho you are there and witnessingthe times and perils. Once you start to read, it's hard to put down.Recommend this book highly!!!

I bought this book in large part because I love historical fiction and when searching for books similar to James Clavell's Asian Saga or Gary Jennings' Aztec, the River God frequently came up. With this in mind, I decided to give Wilbur Smith a try. Undoubtedly, this impacted my view of River God, as I found myself constantly comparing it to other writers. The River God is largely historical inaccurate (Axum was founded over a 1000 years after this book is set, the Bedouin didn't exist, his Author's note at the end is completely bogus, the list goes on) and the Taita is too perfect to sympathize with. However, after I came to accept the River God for what it was, a great story with lots of action and an interesting journey up the Nile, I liked it better. If you want 12 years of historical research like Jennings did in Aztec, try a different writer on Egypt. If you want a great story with some good hunting descriptions and enough history to keep you on Wikipedia fact checking or learning more about Egyptian mythology for hours, River God will suffice.

Detail in an historical novel is like location in business real estate - the ultimate. This is the first in the Egypt series and I missed it. I read The Seventh Scroll and Warlock seven years ago, These books 2 and 3 in the series. What impressed me Andrew me back into the series was the characters, their foibles, strengths, and down right human idiocy on occasion. Taita the eunuch is the glue that binds these books and the dynasty of the Mamose Pharaohs together. Taita's devotion to Queen Lostris, his father like love for the soldier Tanus, and his deep but concealed hatred for Lostris's father, corrupt, power mad Grand Vizer drive the story. Add the scary Hyksos barbarians to the mix. a few tomb tours and Taita;s inquisitive mind matched to his engineering and design skills and the page length is no longer a problem.

If its ancient Egypt, count me in, and Wilbur doesn't disappoint. I picked up this book simply because of the many five stars here on Amazon and it is the very definition of a fast-paced narrative. Can be unbelievable at times, but you won't have any time to be bored. Simply put, the narrator Taita is the most amazing human being ever born, and the supporting characters, though not nearly as awesome, are heads above the rest of us mortals. Wilbur can definitely spin a tale, from the devilish Lord Intef who renders Taita less than a man and causes his own daughter to hate his guts, to Tanus, the god-hero who makes Lostris throw her panties in the air. There is adventure, romance, intrigue, incredible battle scenes, especially the hunting scene with the elephants (amazing), but most importantly there is Taita, whom you might come to hate or love but never can deny his awesomeness.

Second book I've read by Wilbur Smith. Didn't like it as well as the first. Also, he has a penchant for killing animals in disheartening ways. That may be fine for some people, but it's not my cup of tea. Still, he puts together a pretty good story and the writing is fine (but not exceptional).

I first read Wilbur Smith's "Eye of the Tiger" and thought it was a heck of a good read. River God, also by Wilbur Smith will sweep you off your feet! I loved this story, it will stay with me for a long time (probably forever). You'll laugh, cry and thrill to the chase! For anyone interested in ancient Egypt (or antiquity in general), this book is a must. Some readers were put off by the seemingly endless accomplishments by the humble eunuch slave Taita. Let's face it, he had to live by his wits if he was to survive. Today, Taita would be considered a polymath or genius by our standards. Being a eunuch, he is divorced from the drives and desires that keep most men slave to their passions. When reading the ancient historians (i.e., Tacitus, Lucan, Caesar etc.), most aggrandized themselves and their personal roles in history. Just looking at the entire civilization of ancient Egypt you can see how that culture made important contributions to civilization that is with us to this day. The Greeks, Romans and all the great religions owe a big debt to the ancient Eqyptians. A lot of research went in to this story and the probability of the events in the book are very high indeed. In River God, The depecition of politics, greed, lust and the human condition are timeless. To me, the success of a book of this caliber is that it makes you want to read more about the subject matter. Remember this is a work of fiction (the dynastic reign is fictionalized) so sit back, relax and let your imagination soar. When I grow up, I want to be like Taita... Very happy with my rental purchase! Book is brand new & in perfect shape. This book is a great reference for criminal law class, has a great index of cases, good explanations of types of laws. Couldn’t find an explanation of court systems though. Since I live in TX, some laws are different so I may need an added source for specifics.
