I am a student at the University of Baltimore and I had to read this book for a survey entrepreneurship class. I will have to say the book started off pretty decent. It had a good introduction on how Chris Rock prepared for his comedy shows. The books running theme was you learn while doing, but also while failing. A lot of the examples used mentioned how there were several experiments done and mistakes made before they reached their ultimate goal. The book was short but seemed wordy, not a very interesting read but a necessary one for entrepreneurs. The story of Pixar was the most interesting. Pixar had several small wins and even though they had some major flops, they were still able to keep reinventing themselves until they had their breakthrough with animation. I think the author did a great job at delivering the realities of starting a business. He made it a point to mention, through several examples, that it is not all about the large wins, and that sometimes you have to accept small victories and keep progressing forward. He also suggest that setbacks and failures are all a part of the process. I think the book is a good book to read for future entrepreneurs who are finding it hard to find their breakthrough. His emphasis on the experimenting and innovation being key in the success of the business was also a key message throughout the book. The book is definitely geared towards innovative, creative and resourceful individuals who are interested in starting their own business.

When I was first assigned this book, I was a bit hesitant about the content and what it could offer me. As a young entrepreneur, there are always some parts of doubt we have with ideas and the contents that could make or break us. Aspiring entrepreneurs and even existing entrepreneurs should look into it. I learned interesting information about Steve Jobs and Chris Rock that I wasn’t aware of. I have a better appreciation of their crafts and what it took to get where they are today. You will learn to appreciate your failures because they make for a better story and good feedback to fix what wasn’t right in the first place. From learning how militant individuals make their strategic moves with different approaches to conquer constraints in the war. Throughout the book you learn that some people depend on luck like Tim Russert’s experience to the big screen with “Meet the Press”. He believed he could “learn a lit bit from a whole lot of people.” His Knowledge that he learned along the way and persistence got him where he is today. There wasn’t anything that I didn’t like about this book. Which is a first for me due to the fact that I don’t usually engage in personal reading outside of assignments. It made me want to reach out and look for more books to prepare me mentally.I am a current student at University of Baltimore taking Entrepreneurship course and this was my recommended reading.

That's just a three percent success rate for headline writers. Yikes. Or maybe not yikes.Subtitled, "How Breakthrough Ideas Emerge From Small Discoveries," we quickly learn--through dozens of mini-case studies--that innovation comes through hard work, experimentation and bosses who are cheerleaders for failure. (And I would also guess innovation happens with a healthy dose of weekly staff encouragement, motivation and hoopla-type fun. This book can't decide if it wants to be a police procedural, a Harlequin romance, or a Stephen King horror story. The writing is startlingly uneven and riddled with factual errors. It goes along like a perfectly decent murder mystery for a time, but then you hit some jarring error like the tide going out when it needed to be coming in (to cut off access to the tidal island); or the attraction between the two lead characters veers off into ridiculous internal dialogue or bodice-ripping action; or a seemingly decent, sympathetic character is revealed to be a drug-using Satan-worshipper. I began to wonder whether three different authors had alternated sections, challenging each other to find a way to continue the narrative after ever-more-bizarre plot turns. The plot becomes progressively more preposterous as it goes along, generating lots of eye-rolling on the part of this reader, and culminates in a cartoon-ish last-second rescue (on a dark and stormy night!). The mystery is that whole sections are written quite competently, and I have to think that with the help of a good editor, this could have been a dramatically better book.

There are so many wonderful detective series that are well-written and rewarding but this is not one of them. Please spare me the impossibly good looking detective who immediately falls in love with the impossibly good looking potential victim in the middle of ridiculous melodrama and kinky rituals. So sorry I purchased this.

I am a long time mystery reader, but this book like many current mysteries wasn't worth the money. I look for good character development and a good sense of place. This story had neither. The attempts at twists were weak and the ugliness of serial murders holds no interest to me. I didn't finish the book.

I’m cross posting this review for all 7 books in the series as I read them back-to-back. Detective Chief Inspector Ryan is the star of this series, although there are several fantastic supporting characters as well.The first book introduces you to the main characters, their flaws and strengths, as well as the Northumbrian landscape. This author clearly knows the territory in which her books take place and does a beautiful job of describing each location, so much so, that I’ve put the region on my “must visit” list.Each book is a fast paced journey to find the criminal and bring him or her to justice. They’re sprinkled with the emotional details, trials and tribulations of the characters’ lives, which makes each of them real and believable. I had a very difficult time putting each and every one of these books down and now that I’ve finished the last one, I’m desperate for the next…Typically I receive books for free in exchange for an honest and unbiased review, however this is a verified purchase. I finished the book, so I have to grant that there was suspense enough to keep me going. Thought the romance was contrived and silly. Ryan is portrayed as very sexist, both in his initial reaction to the heroine and to the female lawyer who plays a small part. Gory murders are well described. The epilogue turned me off reading any more in the series both because I'd suspected the two bad guys early on, and because I didn't enjoy the Paganism enough to read more. Not a bad writer, just not a story line or characters I care to follow.

Aside from wanting to smack a female character for being such a head strong twit, this book was really slow reading. And I think I may have missed a clue or two because I was lulled into near coma by the pace. I figured out who did it, I figured out why, and was satisfied when the pace finally picked up and DCI Ryan closed in. The last pages ruined the entire book for me. I hated the twist. I may have missed the clues, but that doesn't help. Last pages are not the place for nasty discoveries.After a couple days thinking about it, I went back and dropped the score to one star. I remember the good books I've read. But I will also remember this nasty, rotten, surprise on the last pages.

What a pity this author doesn't get a decent editor. She clearly has talent, which is being wasted writing this kind of rubbish. Developed better as a detective murder mystery it could have been OK - but this is a fruit salad of murder/romantic rubbish/horror. It all gets a bit much when almost every character turns out to be weird and sinister. The two main protagonists are (so ho-hum predictably) absolutely gorgeous (but naturally not vain) and want to rip each other's clothes off from the start. Even after seeing badly disfigured bodies their libido cannot be suppressed. They are both a pain in the butt.I would also seriously suggest that the author take some time to research the differences between the words "which" and "that", and that she tries to get over her obvious fetish for the former, WHICH she applies with abandon and very little discernment.Unfortunately I downloaded three of her books. This is the he first I have read, so I will just have to hope that she took some of her reviews to heart and improved her work before she wrote the next two books.

This is a good read with some surprises and interesting characters. Took me a while to get into it but was hooked about halfway through.The North East of England has become a hotbed of Crime Writing with authors such as Ann Cleeves (Vera stories), Mari Hannah and Howard Linskey. A bit like "Nordic Noir" but in England instead of Scandanavia.Northumbria is a beautiful area with amazing places such as Holy Island the location of this book. Over a thousand years of history from the Romans, through Venerable Bede to the present day can be found in places such as Hadrians Wall (inspiration for the wall in Game of Thrones) Lindisfarne and Durham Cathedral.I recommend reading "The King of the North" by Max Adams as a way to get a sense of the history. Also the central character in Bernard Cornwell's Saxon Chronicles comes from Bamburgh Castle.

I didn't read this book when it first came out , I didn't have the interest. However, we lost our youngest daughter to suicide 16 months ago. When friends of mine saw the movie, they posted on fb how good it was. I decide I would read the book. My heart has ached for the things written in this book. God is good, and healing comes as we forgive and give God the things we cannot control. This is a wonderful book I would recommend to anyone. I'm so glad I read it.

I, a long-time born-again believer, was warned NOT to read this book by brothers and sister in the Faith. For many months, I heeded their "wisdom"; I'm not usually a submissive person to others, so, I was proud of myself for listening. I didn't even listen to "Restoring The Shack" on tv, so as not to be tempted or swayed--until yesterday. Then, I had to buy this book. I've never feared reading any book in my life; in fact, I've always loved and consumed as many as I could get my hands on since before I could read. So, I found it--and myself--absurd in NOT reading it! No book could ever change my Faith in Jesus, nothing is a threat to that, and I was raised with all kinds of knowledge of other religions, superstitions, and even occult things. So, I KNOW lies when I hear them. As a result, I've just finished reading The Shack. Talk about perfect timing! All it did was reinforce what I already know for many years, and the author put into words what I could never express. THANK YOU! I'll be encouraging others to read it. God bless!

I chose a 5 star rating because that is the highest rating you can give on Amazon. The Shack truly deserves more, much more. After reading this book I feel extremely blessed that God chose me to read it. The way this book is written really hits home, if you are having doubts about your faith then this is the book that will help you find a way to seek out God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Probably the worst book I have ever read! The overall message will turn me away from, not toward, God and religion. SPOILER ALERT: Yes, as a parent, one would still most likely love their child even if they committed a heinous act. But also, as a parent, if you can see your child about to commit a heinous act or acts and you have the power to stop it, but do not, you are the worst possible kind of parent and as culpable as the child regarding the act! Shame on anyone who thinks that any reprehensible act should be forgivable. I am appalled that so many people think the book has a positive message! It made me angry and terrified at what the world has become.

I have read this book twice...it is very helpful to people stuck in unforgiveness...it is theologically edgy but IMHO not in what is stated but in what is omitted...But in fairness the book is aimed at a singular issue and not intended to be a 'book of theology.' It's sole purpose is to help people see that God as love in our suffering rather than one distant and harsh. It also points clearly to the necessity of forgiving others in order to go forward in our relationship with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Also IMHO it beautifully portrays the different aspects of a living relationship with each.

Loved the book, then went to see the movie. Slightly different ending in the movie, but lovely story. Please do yourself a favor and read the book and see the movie. I think you will be glad you did. Forgiveness of others and especially of self are big themes along with a new perspective on your view of who God is. Get to meet Jesus and the Holy Spirit for a humorous and poignant story.

This book was more than I expected in a good way. The timing of it was wonderful (I didn't realize there was a movie in the making as well) but it offered a lot of insight and affirmed a lot of my own questions. Helped me through a personal struggle with myself, my role as a wife and mother among my other roles and gave me amazing insight and internal motivation. Definitely planted a seed in my heart. Great read.

The Shack first came into my life as the movie. Watching the movie earlier this Year touched my heart during a time when I was moving into a new chapter of my life or should I say chapters. Almost eleven years since I've lost my husband and two years since retirement. The Shack is so brilliantly written and enhances my faith in "Papa". Everyone who has lost a love one or been touched by the life of someone who has lost a love one should read this book. Everyone who has questions about having a relationship with God should read this book. I had to read the book after the movie. Of course, I wish it were the other way around. Everyone should read this book. I shall read it again and again. Thank you for this amazing work of art.

I bought this book earlier this year on my Kindle. It's a great read. If you use this book and actually get down faithfully with it, I don't think you would need to do classes. My husband and I were working and oh so busy that we barely had time to do this book. A word of advice though - you can never plan and know what labor will be like. The book was clear about that. I think the book can set you up for failure if you think your labor will be textbook, especially if you've never done it before and dont do natural. You just have to have a realistic expectation for your labor.We were due May 23 and my water broke the evening of April 19, our son was born the next morning at 35 weeks, a late preterm baby. He was in the NICU and came home a week later. He's a healthy wonderful boy but we didn't expect any of that!I wanted a natural childbirth and used the methods in this book. The hospital staff respected our wishes. But because our son was premature we had to take extra precautions since the water broke first. the doctor kept pushing pitocin on me, which I didn't get because I knew I was dilating quick enough. I guess he didn't think I was but when he returned an hour later I had gone from 3-10 centimeters and took about 15 minutes to push.Overall, this book helped us understand labor, medical practices and gave my husband the support and knowledge he needed as well, especially if you want no meds in a hospital setting. My husband enjoyed reading this out loud to me! Looking back, this book was spot on with how the female body works in labor so I do highly recommend it. I just want families out there to be realistic and do what's best for them. The most important thing is safety for them and for baby. I just hope that the book doesn't make them feel completely wary of hospitals. We were pretty insecure about having a hospital birth but since he was premature we actually had an amazing experience with the hospital staff and our son's health was taken care for. When it comes down to it, you can take the knowledge from this book, use it and improvise and just get your baby home! Good luck!

I loved this book. I read a review during my pregnancy that recommended this along with Husband-Coached Childbirth by Robert A. Bradley. It was a great idea to get both books. The Bradley book was great for my husband and I to read, but I felt like it was mainly there to convince people to have a non-medical birth (which I already wanted). This book offers actual examples and exercises for birth. My favorite part was the various ways that natural birth can start. In the end, I had my natural waterbirth with husband and midwife helping. Reading this book was one of the most important ways I prepared for birth and I highly recommend it to all women :)Update: I also reviewed this book during my second pregnancy and it helped me rest assured that I could have another natural birth like I wanted. My second baby was born at home in just 3 hours! (I had a waterbirth planned but there was no time for it) I was a little stressed when contractions first started, but with my husband's help, I was able to stay calm. The midwife arrived with one hour left to go, but I could recall helpful illustrations from this book and I was empowered to know exactly what to do for a successful birth!

Okay. So I'm reviewing this before actually having given birth. As far as the content goes . . . it's just like all the other birthing books--horribly biased and convinced they're the only ones doing it "right," but with the same basic natural birthing principle of working with your body instead of against it. Useful exercises/positions, and I really like the concept of emotional signposts. Only about half of this book is useful and readable, though. The other half of it is either introductory or tearing down some other birth method or other. An entire chapter just to preach the evils of Lamaze? Give me a break. Anyway, it's pretty easy to tell which chapters can be skipped and which deserve to be read. The ones that deserve to be read had the stuff about postures, relaxing, exercises, and emotional signposts. Sounds like useful stuff. Still would recommend, provided you focus more on the method and less on their criticisms of other methods.

I bought this book because I was dead set on giving birth naturally but kept hearing negative comments from more experienced mothers. I was a first time mom, so what did I know about birth and not knowing scared me. I bought this book to inform myself of what to expect when dealing with pain, how my body works with me to give birth and what the baby is actively doing to come into this world. With having a supportive husband, doula and reading his book, I was able to step into the Labor & Delivery department confident with all the information I now know. The book is a bit outdated and bias towards natural birth but i got what I needed from it and was able to give birth naturally. PS. I have a new found respect for my mother who gave birth 3 times drug free!

My husband and I read this to prepare for the birth of our second child, along with "The Birth Partner" (him) and Ina May's childbirth book (me), and we felt very comfortable and prepared! We didn't do the Bradley class and felt like the book was all we needed. I plan to re-read it if/when we have baby #3.

I've been reading through 12 different pregnancy books ranging the gamut in methodology from AAP to Ina May. This book has been loaded with factual information, but it's also succinct for how much it covers. It breaks down labor and delivery stages really well.

This is an essential book for childbirth. Even if you aren't doing the natural thing this book prepares you for what you are going to feel when those contractions begin and gives great visualizations and descriptive scenarios of how you will feel and what you will need from your partner. This is the only book I have come back to for reference through each of my three children's births.

Blake (not Tom) Mycloskie has written a short but fairy satisfying book that is part company history and part motivational business guide. The nice twist from Mycloskie's perspective is his belief that we are in an era where private companies can directly address public concerns in a constructive way that is mutually beneficial. Most of his ideas seem to be more geared towards new companies and generating inspiration for a way to serve customers and a charitable cause, but he tries to acknowledge that its never a bad time to do a good thing.The part that I found the most interesting was his description of just how barebones you can (and probably should) be when a company is still struggling make it past year one. His stories of handing off the same phone to different people in the same apartment to "transfer departments" is rather entertaining, and for someone who is still pondering the possibilities, this lays it out pretty plainly. Most people will believe you're the real deal with only a few things, a decent business card, a good website and a clear message. His message about how to treat employees and customers as part of the "family" of the company is also inspiring, he sounds like a great guy to work for or with.I don't much care for the format that Blake borrows from a number of different motivational books where he'll start a chapter out with "let me tell you a story" then give you some anecdote that touches on the topic that he's going to cover in detail in that chapter. Its been done to death and I find most anecdotes to be rather uninteresting (I'm interested in HIS insight, not someone else's story).I would only recommend a buy for someone who finds the TOMS story in itself to be interesting. The overall tone is that of one long motivational speech, which isn't bad at times, but you can get that just about anywhere. I'm glad I got a free review copy. This would make a good library read, but I don't think this book offers enough unique value to warrant purchasing. Its good, with a good message, but not great.

Fabulous book! Really gave me motivation to get my project Arteforelephants (a site that raises money for conservation charities through the sale of fine art) off of the ground! It gave me a ton of information in a relaxed, informal manner. If you are looking for hard core- "How to make a business plan", "How to do a cash flow analysis" type of book than look elsewhere! This book isn't that. I found the best use for this is when I feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of what I am trying to do; I can go back to this book and draw on Blake's words of wisdom and success to keep me going through the "what the heck was I thinkin'?'" times. I hope the author will experience great gratification that his work is out there, germinating a billion side projects!

This book changed my life. This was the third (and most complete) wedding planner I bought...I bought Emily Post's Wedding Planner, which has a bit of helpful etiquette and tradition and some useful forms.I also bought, and returned, The Knot's Ultimate Wedding Planner, which was a grave disappointment.I ALSO bought a small 3-ring binder for sketches and clippings.Martha Stewart's planner has it all.It is the most concise, complete, helpful and beautiful.What sets this planner apart is the format: it's a 1-1/2 inch 3-ring binder, which fits letter-sized paper!It provides convention, tradition, etiquette, forms, and I can add all of my sketches and vendor documents.The design concept is quintessential understated elegance - a celadon green satiny exterior with a matching cloth "binding."It's large enough - plenty of room for copies of pages (get used to making copies for the contacts and guest list).It comes with 2 zip-lock letter sized pockets, a sheet of business card pockets, and six one-sided paper pockets.It has quite a bit of helpful information regarding invitation, seating, and procession conventions, with illustrations and diagrams.The photographs are plenty and supplementary - never overdone or simply to look nice.Speaking of pretty pictures, Martha Stewart's wedding planner is a great "companion," as the editors put it, to her Best of Weddings book.Between the two I honestly do not feel the need for any bridal magazines.I do wish I would have purchased this planner first, as I am not using the Emily Post planner anymore!You will be impressed and relieved with both the quality and the quantity this essential resource embodies and encompasses.I recommend:Martha Stewart's Keepsake Wedding Planner - Great for solidifying ideas.The Best of Martha Stewart Living Weddings - Great for ideas!Emily Post's Wedding Etiquette - A MUST for anyone getting married, part of a wedding, or invited to a wedding.The Knot Guide to Wedding Vows and Traditions - Surprisingly insightful.

The 3-ring binder format of this planner (found in very few planners) make this planner extremely useful. We are able to keep all our contracts together in it. Plus, any other papers (e.g., I printed out some ceremony readings, punched holes in them, and put them in the binder) There is also handy storage for business cards. There are gorgeous, glossy full color photos. I can't stress enough how practical and functional the 3-ring binder format is. However, I would suggest a companion planner to go along with this that includes things this one left out, such as The Anti-Bride Wedding Planner by Gerin/Hughes/Hornick. (I bought and looked at a ton of planners, and not one of them "had it all") Still the best, but it could have included more. More worksheets could have been included (for example, lists of questions to ask each vendor, for one thing), and instead of one worksheet for each category that is included, with a notation to "make photocopies as needed", it seems the book would have been more "helpful" (it's goal) and a better value to have just included multiple copies of each. If you love Martha Stewart you will enjoy this planner, but probably with a companion planner to one that includes some of the things this one leaves out. It's a very elegant and beautiful keepsake.I edited the review 4 months into my wedding planning, because this planner turned out to be a lot more helpful than I initially realized it would be. My previous review was lukewarm, but after 4 months of serious planning and 7 vendors hired, I am appreciating this planner's usefulness. I looked at 15+ planners. I bought 4 planners. 2 of the 4 I bought I threw away - I thought they'd be useful but they weren't. Now I use both Martha Stewart and Anti-Bride. Neither would be enough alone, but they are great companions. No one planner out there "gets it" yet.

I bought this as a present for my sister's engagement. She loves it. It has enough room to add additional ideas in and allows to keep track off all the processes that is needed for planning a wedding. It makes a great gift! Buy it!

I got this as a gift for my sister after searching online for a long time for a perfect wedding organizer. In general I loved it specially the part about the flowers with the names so that we can order any type of flower depending on the theme and colors. Liked the plastic zipped envelope and the plastic card holder. The registry too, and the honey moon check list among other parts like the guest list, seating cards, invitations, cakes and favors. My sister's wedding date in April 17 so I'm planning to customized the planner for her. Still working on some sections but really happy with what I ordered, in my opinion it's the best in market it's Martha's creation after all :)

I got this wedding planner for my newly engaged sister and we couldn't have been more thrilled with it! It is a beautiful binder, with helpful pages thoughout. The section of flowers alone is worth it. With the beautiful pictures and detailed list of types of flowers, you can go to your florist knowing more than just the colors you want, you will actually be educated about flower design. There are numerous worksheets (you may need to make copies of some of them for larger weddings), and great tips on almost every page. All sizes and styles of weddings will benefit from this wonderful planner. Perfect for the elegant or super organized bride.

I have purchased two of these for my sister in laws. I used to manage a very busy wedding photography studio, and this is packed full of really helpful tools to help you plan your wedding. Both of them loved it and have purchased it themselves as gifts for others!
