Early impression is that this is potentially the finest book of maps I've ever seen on the Civil War and its great battles. As I've just received it, I'm still exploring, but the maps are rich in detail, all are done in finely coordinated colors which are remarkably pleasing to the eye, and essential topography is clearly delineated. The narration accompanying each map appears clear and coherent and captures the swift flow of battle superbly. I didn't think they could outdo their previous Gettysburg edition, but I believe they may just have done it. If you're the kind of reader who complains about the lack of good maps in the military history you read, then this is the book for you!

A common complaint with history books is a lack of detailed maps. Stackpole fixes that with this book on the battle of the Civil War. No one book can cover such a broad topic, there are too many important battles. Detweiler helps show the strategic look of the war. 1861, 1862, 1863, 1864, 1865 each have a chapter showing the warring states and details on most of the important battles.Every single page on the right side of the book is a full page map. Very detailed, the maps show terrain features, topography, roads where units were deployed, what the respective commanders intended and in some instances, opportunities missed. They maps are clear, legible to same scale and really help the reader see the battle unfold.Also recommended: Gettysburg: The Story of the Battle with Mapsand I hope Stackpole will continue making books for various battles.

I bought this book for the maps, which offer a great visual summary of the war. They are consistent, intelligently designed, give enough context so you can always see where you are, and include just the right information, giving the essentials of the action without burdening you with more detail than you need to understand each battle. The first few maps give a broad overview, for example the railroad system of the south. It is the clearest visual presentation I've found yet of the Civil War. Simple enough for middle school students to follow. Congrats to Mr. Detweiler, and thank you.

My husband is a history buff, especially about the Civil War. He recently read Chernow’s excellent biography on Grant, and he was constantly googling maps of the various sites in the book. I figured there ought to be decent books full of Civil War era maps. After reading reviews on Amazon, I ordered this for my husband. He was polite about it, yet it was obvious he found the book a bit of a disappointment. The maps are simplistic, and there wasn’t the wealth of additional information we both expected. However, this IS a good map book to help a student at the junior high school level, if they are writing a report on the Civil War. That is the age group I’d say this book would find helpful, certainly no older than a high school student.

The author is too modest in his foreword regarding this work. Any research faces the hurdle of addressing the forest and the trees. Does one focus on socio-politico-economic events or the military? If the later, does one focus on the strategy, the battles, or the detailed tactics? Mr. Detweiler does a fantastic job of combining all but the detailed tactics. One can always look elsewhere for greater details on individual battles and tactics at the regimental level, but this is an EXCELLENT work providing the reader or researcher with a big picture viewpoint with the occasional dive into a battle. Illustrations are always an added cost to any book, but in this case maps exist on every page. Equally as important, there is a well written narrative accompanying each map Stackpole (the publisher) has a history of printing military genre and it is nice to see they have continued with this 2014 book. Compared to the many American Civil War books with the word "Maps" in them, this work easily fits (physically speaking) on your library shelf and I'm glad to have added it to mine.

Very well done and clear enough for my 7-year old grandson to enjoy. Both he and I found the information (historical story and particularly the maps) to be highly informative. He loves the history and the time-phased maps shown help him understand what happened at the battle. We visited Gettysburg (where he became a big fan of the Union's "Iron Brigade") together while using the book. It is written for adults but is understandable by children, too.

I wish this work was available when I began my Civil War study 5 years ago. It's concise, very descriptive and easy to digest. Maps of battles and army positions are very critical and important to help visualize what took place over 150 years ago. A needed companion to any descriptive account of most large battles and movements.

I enjoyed reading this and using the maps to try and visualize where the action was taking place. It wasn't always easy to coordinate the story line with what the maps were depicting. I would like to have seen a greater graphic difference between the opposing forces so that I could tell which side was where instead of having to rely on the names of the various Generals involved. I mean, after Grant, Lee, Sherman, Jackson, Stuart, Longstreet, Halleck and maybe Johnston, it is difficult to identify by name if a certain General was Yank or Rebel. Maybe I'm being too critical. This was a fun read and I would recommend it to others interested in the Civil War battles.

pretty darn easy to understand. i was one of those lucky students to get NO guidance from instructors who suddenly were commenting "this is not a nursing diagnosis" (not kidding), and this book saved me. several other classmates bought it as well. when your instructors suck, at least there's this book.

Before I write this frustrating review let me say that I finally discovered that if I use my Amazon reader on my computer it works but I bought this ebook to use it on my iphone with most current IOS and this is where I have problems: Please know again that I love Ackley and her book but this has been frustratingFirst let me be clear. I love Ackley's book I HATE the kindle version and wish I never spent a dollar on it. I bought the electronic version so that I could use it at work. It's impossible to navigate through it. It's ridiculous as you are forced to do only a search of terms and get loads of hits instead of having the option to Go TO a particular nursing diagnosis...the go to location features on all kindle products is ridiculous. I was wishing that at least I could print out the list of nursing diagnosis that you would normally find on the inside cover of the physical book. I figured at least this way I could search this electronic version more effectively.What a waste of my money..and now because I like Ackley's book so much I was forced to buy the hard cover version...let's be serious here a book like this needs more searching options..in this ridiculous version you have to tap through ever page in the table of contents to get to where you wantEVEN worse when I search and find a nursing diagnosis that I like do you think you could at least CLICK ON IT so that it would bring you to the full version where the NIC and NOC and EBP is? OF COURSE NOT! what a waste of my hard earned money

If you have to write care plans for nursing school, then this book is a MUST HAVE! I went from spending 13-15 hours every week on clinical paperwork, but this book cut that time down to about 2-3 hours. I am not kidding, this book is a nursing school Bible! Some of the best money I spent in nursing school.

I love this book. I bought it for nursing school and used it many times for writing care plans. Super easy to use. All the diagnoses are right on the first page when you open the book. It gives you a page number and on each page it has defining characteristics, interventions, and more! Also the first few pages has a list of patient conditions/problems and then potential diagnoses for those problems. I will use this book forever.

Very thorough and up to date. Great as a reference for nursing school or anyone who needs to understand the mysterious, ever-changing world of NANDA. There are plenty of digital resources, but for me there is no replacement for an actual book. A little bit overpriced in my opinion, but that seems to be the trend with any scientific, nursing, or medical text these days.

This book has been such an amazing resource for my care plans in nursing school! It's so easy to navigate and provides excellent breakdowns of the different nursing diagnoses (NANDA) with fantastic interventions and scientific rationale. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a nursing diagnosis book. My program recommended Sparks & Taylor and all of my fellow students are making the switch to this book.

I somehow have been going through my first year of school without this. I am so pleased bc I used this and cut my time spent on careplanning down drastically with this book. And the online resource is pretty cool too!

Never realized there was a difference between a medical diagnosis and a nursing diagnosis until now. This book really helps the beginner nursing student understand how to create a proper NANDA for each patient and situation. It will continue to be helpful to me throughout my education.

Fyi - the Moonlight Sonata is by Beethoven and so not in this collection.

I wear Size M for most of clothes and my waist is 31",hip circumference is 41". Since I saw many reviews mention it's smaller then expected. I order Tag Size XXL /US L. It's perfect for me. I had 3 Fajas Ann Chery. They are great, but expensive. Maidenform Sleek Smoothers WYOB Bodybriefer Shapewear are very comfortable and cheap, but holds nothing. So far, I like this product the most.

I met Greg at the Greenwood Car Show this year. We talked about his book and I ordered it when I got home. As I read the first part of the book, I felt teased because he would mention a car and tell a little, not really wrapping up the story at the end. I was perplexed, yet intrigued. I was rewarded in spades. It all comes together. The story is told in dialogue and I was completely sucked in. It all came together in a fantasy trip through the meeting of two men of different generations and their strong common interest... the love of cars and the people around them.I highly recommend this very affordable read.David DickinsonEditor/PublisherEvancourt Press

Like cars? Then read FOUND. Actually, I would go as far as to say that FOUND is required reading for anyone with an appreciation for cars, new or old. Why? Because author Greg(ory) Long successfully incorporates many of the inherent attributes of the car genre. And what are those, pray tell? They are aplenty but namely; design, engineering, innovation, business, entrepreneurship, human interest and searching for that diamond in the rough (the latter of which transcends cars alone and is infinitely exciting). The plot has an interesting and unique cadence as many of the stories are seemingly disjointed and disconnected, but eventually thread into a web of relevance. The book FOUND is to automobiles as the film “The Red Violin” is to, uh, violins. Long’s deep-seated knowledge of automobiles is apparent so it will please the discerning car geek, but it is not too over the top so as to loose the novice. Actually, I have been a classic car buff since I was 9 years old and found myself reaching for a search engine to look up certain, uh engines and historical themes referenced. I got to the point where I was often sidetracked away from the pages of the book to pages online to reference obscure car models as well as unfamiliar moments in history. Engaging with the book on this level was a huge amount of fun for me and certainly strengthened my working knowledge of cars or manufactures I was familiar with as well as exposing me to cars I only knew a little about. The author offers an “online afterward” of sorts to address questions and further define some of the details mentioned throughout the book. I found myself pouring over that material after I had finished the book to appease my curiosity about many of the stories in FOUND.Ok, so why would I recommend this book to anyone interested in cars? FOUND comes at pivotal time in the classic car hobby, being that motoring as we know it is just over a 100 years old or so, we will probably never see the sort of risks taken by manufactures of the 20th century again. So much of modern automotive design has been homogenized do to the financial risk of a manufacture taking a chance on untested innovations. Also, the differing safety standards from country to country will make it nearly impossible for us to ever see an icon car like the 2cv or the Beetle again. So, since all of the cars of the 20th century have been built is up to us to FOUND and preserve them.

I loved this book!I'm not necessarily a big car guy - more of a hands on, practical fixer upper of an old car (not to be confused with a classic, antique, vintage or any other designation that would ascribe more "value" to it than it actually has). However, much like the many subjects in Found, my vehicle holds many cherished memories: road trips, camping adventures, kids play dates, sports tournaments, school drop offs, dog beach outings, etc. It's as old as my oldest child, and older than my youngest. It's outlived our first Labrador, Molly, who rode it to the beach on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, and now both of our mutts love to ride in the back, as they head for a Lake Michigan swim.I recommend this book to anyone - and not necessarily just "car folks". The people stories surrounding these cars are compelling and engaging. And while I certainly don't own a fancy car, my humble vehicle and I (and my family) also have a tale or two - everyone has a story. Thank you for reminding me of that.I look forward to Mr. Long's next novel.jca

I loved the entire book and found myself wanting to know more about the cars and their owners. I was captivated by the level of detail the author put into the descriptions all the way down to the actual color names used to describe them. I loved the way the story builds on the relationship of the two main characters as their adventures unfold. I have to learn more about the Citroen DS after reading the book. I knew it was an innovative car but not to the extent it really is.

I can't think of a better father's day gift!Found is a story of friendship, wrapped around the colorful lives of cars (mostly exotic) and the misadventures that caused them to be lost... and found. It was fun to see the disparate tales come together in the end.For the Dad who likes cars, seriously this is the perfect gift!!!

Great read! I love the writer's creativity of weaving the classic cars with the human interest stories. The background stories that sometimes come with these classic automobiles are becoming as important as the classic car itself as the values continue to climb.The novel's fictional approach with fact based information becomes an informative tool for the classic car lover or anyone that enjoys a good reading adventure.Congrats on a great novel.

This book was a thoroughly delightful way to connect with many cars I remember and like. Reading about the cars, and the human circumstances surrounding each encounter with each car, provides the reader vicarious enjoyment that would have been impossible had Greg Long written this as anything other than a novel.

This is a condensed version, but it was enough to gain my interest to buy the full version (ISBN 0-8091-0537-3), and it is powerful. If you are a serious student of church history (as I am), you need to purchase the full version. Although the Didache is about certain early church communities, it does provide an outstanding glimpse into the early church in a manner that is unparalleled. However, bear in mind the full version (almost 1,000 pages) is written by and for academics, citing the analysis of other academics (I am only a layman). Nevertheless, it has greatly enhanced my appreciation of the ancient world's civilizations and how the early church formed and grew. If you are a fundamentalist, this book is almost certainly beyond your scope as you will be shocked to learn how shallow your knowledge of Christianity is.

I was interested to see what may be a 1st century Christian guide, but a little disappointed overall. Most of it agrees with the Gospel, IMO, but it falls short on harmonizing with them. It really smacks more of the encroachment of the institutional church, placing the judgment of the sinner as final authority over other members, instead of who the Bible states is in authority.

The sub-title of this book is its best summary of content: "Text, Translation, Analysis, and Commentary". Aaron Milavec uses this volume to push some of his novel theories about this remarkable document. He claims it is VERY early (50-80AD) and has its "own internal logic". These are amazing claims that I do not think there is enough evidence to support them. Nevertheless, the volume is still of some value because it takes the Didache as a document in its own right with pre-existing assumptions about authorship. I believe he has missed some important internal clues about the language that alone make it at least 100 years later than he claims. despite this, it is a very useful alternate view that is well researched.

The Didache:Text, Translation, Analysis and Commentary is a must read in conjunction with The Didache is an absolute must read. The information is food for the soul and extremely helpful in understanding early Christianity.Fr. Friar Dennis+

THE DIDACHE was a text discovered by a Greek Orthodox Archbisiop named Philotheous Bryennious (1833-.c. 1914 or 1918) in 1873 while examining a Greek convent. THE DIDACHE was a training manual and litergical guide for novices wishing to join early Christian communities. Aaron Milavec who edited this edition wrote the introduction and placed the Greek (Koine Greek)text along with English translation.The discovery of THE DIACHE is a new historical development of one of the oldest texts in Catholic/Christian History. Scholars date the anonymous publication between c. 50-c.90 AD before the Canonical gospels were adopted and at the time of some of the apostles such as St. John and St. Paul. Milavec wrote that at first some historians thought that THE DIDACHE was a fabrication, but they had to agree on the authenticity of the text which became published and circulated by 1884.Milhavec proved that THE DIADCHE was not based on any of the Gospels or writings of the early apostles. Yet, the text has both Old Testament and New Testament prescriptions and prohibitions such as bans on murder, illicit sex, etc. Passages also have reminders of patience, praying for one's enemies, calm resolute conversation, forgiveness, etc. Greed, hatred, hypocricy, and wrath are to be avoided at all costs. THE DIACHE has firm warnings against magic, false symbols, and false, huskster prophets (profits?). THE DIDACHE had comments about the Way of Life and the Way of Death which echoes Deuteronomy 30:15. Readers may conjecture that THE DIADACHE may have been based on St. Paul's recommendation of honoring traditions (2 Thesalonians2:15)which are also mentioned in other Pauline Epistles.What intrigued the undersigned is that the liturgy, while not exactly the same as that of the Holy Mass, is very similar to Holy Mass. Sacraments such as baptism, confession, espeically the Eucharist, Last Rites and other sacraments are metnioned along with recitation of The Lord's Prayer and biblical readings. THE DIDACHE cites The Golden Rule. Mentors including women mentors were to lead examplary lives and not deviaate from the tradition and format of THE DIADACHE. THE DIADACHE did not promise an easy live and warned of the wrath of close "friends" and family members. Yet, the novice was introduced into a new family.Milavec cites in his commentary warnings about the immediate Second Coming and to avoid false prophets who make such predictions to their own discredit. THE DIDACHE also warned against mistreatment of slaves and employees. Stress was placed on the Eucharist to the point that Confession/Reconcilation were necessary prior to participating in the Eucharist.The end of this book as useful flowcharts and a good bibliography. The English text is clear to those who do not know the Greek language. One can learn much about conditions of early Church History during the first two centuries of Christianity. What cannot be gleaned from the text can be understood from the commentary and flowcharts.This writer's only criticism of Milavec's edtion of THE DIDACHE is that it does not have an index. However, interested readers can refer to the book if they take careful notes and seriously read this text. This short book is highly recommended for anyone interested in understanding the development of the early Christian church. I read with fascination about the practices of one early group. At least some of the writings must date back to the very earliest years when there were several distinct "Jesus sects", probably before the writings of Paul were well known. Specifically, I found that the text for the eucharist (Section 9) is truly a thanksgiving, without the Christology of the later church added. (The word "eucharist" comes from the Greek for "thanks".) However, one can find traces of later additions, such as the Trinity added in Section 7. Thus we can see layers as the church developed.Milavec has a good introduction to the material, and then gives a strong argument for why the Didache is organized as it is.

Kindle version is totally illegible and the book should never have been released in this format. A complete waste of money.

Exactly what I thought it would be! I got a new car and wanted to keep track of the maintenance. Good size for the glove box and now I don't have to use notebook paper!

I'm able to keep all the information in one area and sized to keep in the glove compartment so if my mechanic wants to be reminded of when we did a certain issue. After checking out mine, I ordered a couple more for my grandsons who just got cars.

It is what it says it is, however it is a little too big in my opinion. I was thinking it was going to be like a pocket size calendar booklet that wouldn't take up so much space in a glove compartment box. This book is bigger than it needs to be.

Needs a mileage log section. Of poor/limited uste

Is what it is. Started a log of activity when i bought my new used vehicle and i plan on keeping track of my expenses and work put into it. Worth while for the micromanaging kind of person. I like it, it works for me.

Overall its a nice book to keep accurate records but it is a bit flimsy. I wish there was a heavier paper weight, at least to the cover.

Great book. Could use a few more options like when changing oil depending on the filter you buy you don't need to replace the filter.

Are use this journal for my business. It’s come in handy to reference back to what vehicle has been served what vehicle has not
