This is definitely an academic-audience book. The prose and argument can be a little dense at times, but the overall topic is fascinating and the author provides a compelling argument and highly detailed narrative. That something so simple as tea can change the world so profoundly is staggering.Probably not suitable to the average casual history enthusiast, unless you are already particularly interested and well-read in the history of the British Empire.

This is a great book for many reasons--well written, far reaching and really important to the history of globalization!! Highly recommended with fantastic illustrations!

This book is an amazing account of how tea shaped the world. It is one of those rare gems where cultural history meets economic history and the result is fantastic. It will cause you to consider and remember things from your family, childhood, and present life that revolve around different kinds of tea why you put the milk in before the tea or if putting milk into tea is the correct way to drink it. Rappaport proves beyond a doubt that the way we consume tea in various parts of the world was shaped by a variety of factors and if you live in the American south, she tells you a lot about why ice tea/sweet tea is popular in your neck of the woods.

This book looked like it could have been very interesting, but other than it being just a little too scholarly for my taste, the print was too small to comfortably be able to read. I've seen a number of books that were ruined, because of the typeface being too small, and I can't understand why it is done.

I returned this book so I can't say.

I'm pretty fascinated with bats, especially after observing these giant "cat-faced" bats that move in trees like monkeys outside my apartment in Okinawa. So this book is exciting, even though it hadn't occurred to me to seek out a book on bats, and I had no idea how many types of bats there are!Unfortunately, my copy is an uncorrected proof (which is odd in an illustrated book like this), so I have trouble guessing what the pictures are going to look like in the final version, and obviously the pictures are a very important part of the book. But even in the B&W pics, it is really pretty cool to see such up-close photos of so many different bats - you can see just how diverse different species look. You get a lot of head shots, from the side, and then there are also some action shots of (what I'm guessing are) colorful or large or otherwise exceptionally interesting bats. The pictures look weird in my edition, and I can't tell what is because they are B&W and what is because they probably had to be shot with night vision. But my guess is the book is going to be awesome (even quite cool in the edition I have) so I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt.The writing is very straightforward and almost scientific (i.e., slightly dry) - exactly what you expect (and probably even want) in a book like this. It surprised me that it wasn't split up by world region, but rather by family, genus, and species. This makes sense when you realize just how many bats there are in the world, and also because they can fly and migrate to different parts of the world. There are some intros to families and genera before the pic and description of a few species from the group that was just intro'ed (note that not every species has its own picture or section). It also tells you how threatened each species is, if at all.Very cool book.

I was seduced by the beautiful color cover of Marianne Taylor’s Bats: An Illustrated Guide to All Species.For me, Merlin D. Tuttles’ photographs dominate the book with their clarity and uniqueness. Bats in their infinite variety and in such clear pictures. The advance copy that I am reading has black and white photographs, but the back cover promises ‘full color photographs.’ Even the black and whites are riveting, but potential purchasers should check this aspect.Taylor provides an informative introduction with summaries of bat research, their evolution, diversity, biology, behavior, ecology, and bats and people.She then goes on to list and describe bats.This is a classification guide and not a book about bats. The back cover promises a ‘lively narrative.’ I can’t find it. What I do find for the majority of the book is serious important information about bats listed by genus and species.I don’t want to lower the rating of this book because the publisher’s PR department failed to give an honest depiction of the book on the back cover.Taylor and Tuttle created a beautiful, informative book.

This is a comprehensive survey of all the known bat species, with basic and not-so-basic facts about each family and each species. Accompanied by what are probably lovely pictures...but I can't judge that well as my review copy is in black and white. So I'll bet it's a stunning book, but have to take off a star because I can't tell.Still, the information is clearly presented and well organized. The black and white versions of the pictures are clear and well composed. The reading comprehension level is not for little kids, but middle school and above who are interested in biology can probably handle it.

I know, its a corny title for a review But that should not detract from the fact "Bats: An Illustrated Guide to All Species" is the definitive guide to bats. The photos look great. The information is carefully detailed so the reader has a greater understanding of bats.If you or someone you love are interested in bats, "Bats: An Illustrated Guide to All Species" you should definitely buy this book. You will not be disappointed.

This illustrated book of bat species seems to be very comprehensive. I looked through it myself and was very intrigued. I'm just waiting for my niece to see it. She is a huge fan of bats! I know she will love reading it and looking at all of the beautiful photos.

Wonderful illustrations, interesting information that is thorough yet not written as if the reader is already an expert chiropterologist. All-around, an excellent guide to bats that will delight any fans of our flying friends. Five stars.

I was expecting a normal sized pocket book........but this is like a phone book. Very tiny print across a very large page. Have to use a sheet of paper under the line I'm reading so I don't loose my place when dropping down to the next line. Extremely detailed and a complete translation of the Vedas.

huge and awesome

Masonic cognitive cipher book, based on and including the translated Vedas. A knowledge of philology is useful. Agni in cipher riddles correlates with the Hebrew letter Shin. Cipher key begins with Agni.

This volume has an immense amount of translated information. The type print is small, but if it gets this amount of information in one book versus 2-3, I'll take the small print. This is a daily read for me.

I am not a big fan of this book, because the inner meaning of the vedic sanskrit is not highlighted but the literal meaning is. Some sentences mean is completely incorrect with the english words used

BIG! It's very big. I love it! Wonderful to be able to read ancient material. Great thanks to the authors and publishers of this timeless tome.

If you're interested in reading the Vedas and want all of it in a single volume, then this is probably the way to go. I've seen some reviews complain about text size, but when it arrived I was expecting it to be harder to read based on the reviews I had read. Sure, the font is small, but it's legible. My only complaint and the reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that if you wish to have an index, you have to purchase a separate book, for about the same price.

What a wonderful Alien world Ms. Carter has created. In this fast paced, third story of the series, she tells of the Latharian empire threatened to be doomed to extinction unless the Lathar males find mates and procreate. All Latharian females died of an unknown deadly condition. Since human women are compatible to Lathar males, Latharians are more than happy to claim them as their mates. Lord Laarn K'Vaas is the "Lord Healer" of the Lathar empire; the highest ranking Healer in the Empire. He's made it his mission to track the problem with Lathar DNA which causes female fetuses to die in the womb---if he cannot find a cure, soon all fetuses would be affected followed by warriors becoming sterile.I really liked this story, but there were so many loose threads flapping in the wind:1). There's a war on the borders of their sub-space that pulls Lord Laarn K'Vaas away for a few weeks. WHY? What did this war skirmish have to do with anything? It's resolved; Laarn and his General's warriors win the day but nothing more is said about it. What's up with that?!?2). Jess Kallson, who is the female character of the story...has a twin sister who falls deathly ill (on earth). Jess is frantic with worry wanting to go home to earth to be with her sister who could be dying. A ship is dispatched to earth. But then nothing more is said about it. Noth-ing! What happened to the sister? Did she die? Why isn't Jess worried about her anymore when she could hardly function with worry before? 3). If Jess is so valuable, and the child she's carrying is the missing link to the entire future of their race...then WHY is she constantly being put in harms way or kidnapped? Why is any kind of threat even near her? This woman is the answer to their future for crying out loud. I mean, the Latharians are supposed to be an extremely advanced, intelligent, elite race. What kind of outdated safety precautions allows one female to constantly be put in danger and almost killed?!? I kept throwing my hands up in the air with this.Anyway, there's a few more holes, but I still enjoyed the gist of the story even though the storyline was a little flimsy. Massive, menacing, testosterone Latharian Warriors are reduced to protective puppy dogs in the presence of their mates. It was pretty funny. They treat human females like fine china or fragile spun glass, catering to their every need. I thought it was interesting how Ms. Carter made Lord Healer (Laarn K'Vaas) able to connect with a patient and feel their pain through neural links. That was pretty cool. Anyway, this is can be read as a standalone story. It's told in 3rd person, dual POV.

I liked it. I like a non-warrior female lead. Some parts of the book didn’t make since to me. — like why a marine woman would be at ALL able to go toe to toe with a genetically modified warrior from a warrior race/ advanced race.Also the marine lady stated that the lead was a none combat team member - stating that she is more valuable to them in her core function. — wellllll then why r any of the woman in combat positions. It’s a dying race. They are ALL more valuable as companions and to help repopulate then as muscle.Another thing. Why is a healer a warrior? I get the author said cuz it’s a warrior race but— how can u focus on surgery when ur in crippling pain? How would u be amazing at fighting and healing. Medical training is not easy. U would be most useful as a healer. And spend ur time training on that.I did enjoy the book but since it seems this is maybe book 3 and the other two seem to feature physically dominant and aggressive woman I know that’s not my jam so I’ll skip them. I’d be open to buying more books if she writes more with female leads like this - just cuz they don’t shoot a gun or bust ballz doesn’t mean they r not strong.She will be on my radar as an author. :)

This third installment of the Lathar Warriors Saga is definitely better than #2.This time, it’s all about Jess and Laarn, the Lathars’ Grand Healer now. We’ve had a few glimpses into these two in the previous two volumes, but this relationship look is probably the best of the three so far.I think this time, Mina finally wrote some better characters to enjoy. Not perfect, though. Still relying on a few old cliches that are getting very passé right now as I’ve read it too many times. (“Oh! I must leave you though I love you!”) Too tired of this, but still, we now get a better look into the Lathar society. As for the emperor, I know what the writer is trying to do, but it’s not working. He isn’t a buffoon, and the parts that are nudge-nudge wink-wink are too forced. A little more subtlety would be appreciated.The Purists are still out there, causing mayhem. For being such a warrior-style government, you’d think they’d keep the palace cleared of spies, insurrectionists, and palace coup attempts. It’s rather sloppy work. Why not watch Game of Thrones, Mina, and learn what palace intrigue is. That’s what is missing.I am glad I did get a chance to read this installment. Based on Number 2, I wasn’t betting I would like it, but it is the best of the three so far. Okay… I think I’ll read the next one.

The healer needed to get over himself in this one. The first two books pissed me off because it puts rose colored glasses on kidnapping and rape. Those books drove me nuts. This one is only a little better but not by much. It amazes me how the females become doormats because the males are so hawt and the nookie is "amazing"(apparently?!?) All other brain cells and functions cease. The males are trying so hard to be Alpha males that they fall short. They come across as over bearing and bullies. Then, the women miraculously forget all wrongs while the males have done nothing to deserve the devotion that the females bestow upon them. I am now exhausted from this book due to the frustration it caused. It was still nothing like the first 2. They were worse.

I really enjoy all of her books, but this might be my favorite series. And this is the best story so far. Laarn is a really stubborn male and just refuses to accept what was right in front of him and when he finally decides she is it, he has to go off planet. Jess manages to get pregnant without him there and it seems half the planet wants her and her baby dead. Then when things are looking good she overheard Laarn say he never meant to claim her. And again they want her and her baby dead. Can she get a break. Will Laarn get to her in time to save her and the baby. Will he be able to convince Jess he truly cares for her. I could not put it down until I had read the whole story. Can't wait for the next one.

I've read a LOT of books about women in business and the issues we face in progressing (or not progressing) in our careers. Susan's book is one of my favorites. It's packed with both theory and practical examples that bring all the issues to life. She's open about her own areas of development - she makes herself vulnerable to her readers by saying, "I'm an expert and I'm still wrestling with some of the issues I write about. It's a must-read for male leaders as well because it will help understand the female psyche and the issues with which even the most senior and talented women often wrestle. I do not typically read business or leadership books but I did find it easy to read, the author was relatable and it was not filled with business jargon or above the understanding of someone not in the business world. I’d recommend this book to other leaders, regardless of their field.

This book is a perfect coaster but as a source of knowledge...not so much. Chase takes very complicated subjects and strategies and oversimplifies what goes into them. For example, options trading. I was a floor trader for a number of years and options are not for people who are unsophisticated. They are complex and if you’re not careful, you can lose your shirt. The first chapter is all about writing a book and putting it on Amazon. While that is not impossible, the steps described in the book don’t seem doable. In order to get a six figure income, you’d have to write 100 books and sell them at the price you bought this book.

I found this book to be very practical and realistic in its advice. I found many, if not all, of the strategies very do-able. Indeed, I have already updated an ebook I had already published in amazon, based on guidance in this book, and intend to publish a second one.Even if you don't have any intention of adopting any of the strategies in the book, there is a wealth of reference information to be had, such as useful websites and other resources.All in all, I found this to be a most useful and worthwhile read, with a lot to offer.

Wish I could get my money back on this book. First he makes it sound so easy to make money. Write 100 books by using a ghost writer and then sell it on line. Seriously? The entire book is full of things like this. So disappointed.

This is a great book on building passive income. Not only that the author gives you different strategies to generate passive income, but he also lets you know the required mindset to build the businesses. I think having the right mindset is at least 50% of the battle. His approach is very realistic. Bottom line: if we don't take action, no amount of information can help.

Love this book provides the details on how to start today making money in various ways. Defently recommend to anyone looking to make more money while holding down the day job.

This is the dream. However this book straightens out the misconceptions and gives acutall practical ideas. But this is not a get rich quick guide. Real work has to be dne after this book.

Writing was to the point and not a lot of filler. It guides you step by step which is nice.
