Bought this book to brush up on hydrology and hydraulics for the PE exam. I wish my college courses had used this book. Excellent book, I own my own shop and I am the only employee!. This book should be used in the schools or in classes teaching machining. This book will stay with in arms reach in my shop. There is great practical information in this book and will with either add or remind you of better ways to work! Work Smart Not Hard!

This is a great book to flip through, even for the seasoned machinist. There are a bunch of tips, tricks, and stories within these pages, and even though we bought it as a parting gift for our machinist intern, the shop seniors couldn't put it down.

recommended by a machinist who is a machinist for 40 years . This is the only book he took on vacation.I ordered it on Friday and it came Monday . I under stand why. a good book

This guy obviously is a real machinist and knows his stuff. Use the look inside, it lets you see the first couple things in every chapter, if that doesn't convince you to buy either you are already a machining genius, or an arrogant chump who thinks you have nothing to learn. Some of the things in here I knew already, many I did not. This is in my opinion an essential book for any machinist who wants to make sure they are accurate and productive (i.e., making money, not rejects).

My (small) shop tends to either be silent or cranking full tilt under a tight deadline. This book contains a ton of good advice for those frantic times, and while it's hard to say for sure I'd guess it's saved at least one project from deadline-related failure. Awesome resource.

Some info I had already learned the hard way, other tid bits were a "face palm" producing moment in solving problems I have had for quite some time. Very helpful for my hobby of metal fabrication.

My school instructor had it as 2nd most recommended book for the machinist/CNC course, so I bought it after I was done at least reading through the first textbook. So far have just jumped around in the book, as projects come up, but found the CNC chapter15 to be quite helpful on CNC projects, pointing to computer programs and resources that we did not have time to cover in the classroom. Illustrations quite helpful, language is straightforward, just like having a civilized mentor--rather than an ornery, hard bitten machinist applying a snapping turtle coaching technique. It seems to me that someone gave considerable thought to the illustrations, which you will appreciate if and when you bring the book to the shop. Definitely a good investment, IMO, if you're serious about improving your skills. Lots to learn.Pic below is from CNC project I worked on for the vertical mill.

I’m a huge fan of Nora’s....her writing. Her podcast. Her humor. She has the ability to make me laugh while crying. I listened to the whole thing in a day. So glad she narrated!

Never have I before laughed, cried and said OUT LOUD "Amen" while reading a book. All of that happened within the first 3 pages! If you've lost your love, know someone who has or are just trying to be a more understanding decent human being... who likes to laugh.... and sometimes cry BUY THIS BOOK!

It's amazing how sometimes a book can just hit you at the right time. No Happy Endings did that for me. This is a book I needed to be reading tonight, and I was reading it because Nora mailed me a copy and maybe I also needed that surprise act of genuine kindness. (Honestly, it's going to take me months to stop being excited that I own a book signed by #ralphiegrams. Note this wasn't in exchange for review, literally just a super nice gift.)This book is about persisting, and loving, and people. It's about religion and feminism. But it's also funny? And entertaining? Except then you might cry. Basically: this book covers some ground. I think it's similar in feel to It's Okay to Laugh, while perhaps more often taking a big picture view of things (e.g., dating, gender norms, grieving). I did find No Happy Endings to be a bit better written (which feels like a slam on the first book, though it's not! Read that one too). Both these books hit me. It's like if Oprah were 3 decades younger; lost her baby, dad, and husband in short succession; and had a tendency to ramble. (Yes, that's absolutely a high compliment.)There's a lot packed into this one (< 300-page) book but I hope what really cuts through is that loss is not something to "get over." Like, when someone dies, it's not as if they never existed. And if you're happy a year later, it's not as if you're no longer sad they died. As Nora puts it, there are "multitudes included in all our experiences." (She says a lot more, but I don't want to ruin the reading experience for you.) This memoir comforted me, made me reflect, and taught me - all while being engaging. Highly recommend.
