This book is a great way to get your candy-loving kid interested in science.I purchased this book as a reference when my son needed to perform a science fair project for school. We have used it for that and more. The intro questions for the various experiments have grabbed my son's interest, and the experiments are quite achievable to do at home.Pros:Bright colorful pages and fontEasy to understand instructionsEach experiment has time and difficulty level guideNo experiments require turning the pageAll materials are readily accessibleAll experiments have a write up describing chemically & physically what is happening and whyCons:NoneI recommend this book for science-minded kids or to encourage candy-loving kids to take an interest in science. This book is a must have for any candy loving science oriented child. My one child found it at the library so I ordered him his on copy on Amazon. He reads it weekly, at least. We have only performed a couple of the experiments but it is nice to be able to turn to these in a time of need.

This is such a fun book! I used it to teach science lessons last summer and the kids loved it. As a teacher I appreciated the explanation to the different reactions that were happening and the easy to follow instructions. I recommend this book to families, teachers and homeschoolers.

As a science teacher I can honestly say this book was quite a bit of fun for my students. Experiments are easy and also allow kids to use up their halloween/easter/xmas candy in a more productive way. The experiments range from 1 minute experiments to 10 days. Enough to keep a class busy on Fun Fridays for an entire school year.

I bought this for my 5 year old great-nephew. I looked through the book and found some of the easy to medium experiments. Then I bought the necessary candy, which I put into envelopes with the page number of the experiment. He has a lot of fun with it.

My kids and I react to artificial food colors, so it's nice to have something fun and educational to do with all that holiday candy we can't eat!

Saw this book at the Franklin Institute, and bought it here. The book has a nice collection of experiments. We got it for a 10 year olds birthday, and it gave us a reason to buy tons of candy- what's not to like about that.

This book was so insightful. The techniques I learned to heal alongside traditional Christian principles were truly eye opening for me and invigorating. With my new found knowledge I am able to heal when physical symptoms appear. Some healings are immediate and others take months while one in particularly large (seemingly stubborn) illness took 11 months. My faith and determination kept me going and I am so glad I did. I recommend this book wholeheartedly to everyone. The book is a little hard to read but stay with it! You won't regret it! Also: this book is not to read and then shelved. It's a book to be LIVED and PRACTICE. But isn't that what true God-fearing people do anyway?? 😊

I'm not a Christian Scientist, but my girlfriend is, and she sent me this book for my birthday. I was quite surprised to discover that in the last half of the book, I agreed with just about everything the author said. To think that she wrote this in 1875 is phenomenal. She obviously was way ahead of her time. Her thinking is quite advanced and very impressive.Mary Baker Eddy is known for founding the Christian Science Religion, whose main tenets inform us that sickness and pain are lies, that they don't exist, except as we have been brainwashed to believe they do. This is strong stuff.She also founded The Christian Science Monitor, an international daily newspaper still successful since the 1800's. The newspaper is a monument to her brilliance.Her writing is strong and complicated, and there have been testimonials that people were cured of their illness after reading this book. Amazing. If this is true, and you are sick, well, read the book! I mean, what have you got to lose. I haven't even finished it yet, I am so impressed with what I'm reading. I'm up to page 461. It's fascinating reading if you are ready for this kind of thinking. You have to definitely open your mind, throw away your previous ideas, and see if you can allow these ideas into your head.

I have read this book over and over and i am inspired and learn with every reading. I have found myself free from all sorts of ills from the inspiration which has brought me closer to the Scriptures and God. It is a book for thinkers not for those who let others, no matter how exalted a position they occupy, do their thinking for them.

While there are several publishers of Mary Baker Eddy's marvelous and life-changing book, Science and Health, on Amazon, there is only one authorized and guaranteed authentic edition. Unfortunately this is not it. While one has to commend anyone who wants to publish all or a portion of Mary Baker Eddy's writings, there is only one publisher who can be safely relied on to publish exactly the full, complete and accurate edition of what Mrs. Eddy wrote, and that is by the church she founded, The First Church of Christ, Scientist located in Boston, Massachusetts. Many, if not most or all of the other publishers who have Science and Health for sale on Amazon have omitted chapters and or pages of their choosing. This particular edition, for example, has only 524 pages. The original has 700 pages, all of which are essential to grasping the message Mrs. Eddy intended to convey. So no harm in purchasing this edition and supporting a deserving publisher, and there is no reason to disregard the other reviewers comments on this book. In fact many of the reviewers here may have read the original authorized version and commented here not realizing this was not the full and complete representation of the original. However, if you want to be certain you have the right one, you should be sure the edition displayed has an image of the book's cover, which should contain on the face the trademarked, circular "Cross and Crown" seal. Additionally, the title of the book should indicate that it is an "Authorized" edition. The text of the title should contain the word "Authorized." At the time of this review, the only Science and Health edition which currently meets that criteria is the paperback, blue "Sapphire Edition," which should come up simply by entering the search term "Science and Health." But you should do it. This book will change your life for the better - forever. It has mine.

I love the First Edition and my favorite is the 1886 Edition. Who doesn't love God's healing!

The story of how Bandon came to be is well told. The details of how each hole came to be is really enjoyable if you have any golf design blood in you. More pictures of the holes and pictures of the early drawings would have really helped, but on the whole - well done.What turned me off was all the praise for Keiser building a great course for the every day golfer - the non country club member. "This course was going to be different because it isn't about the money." Is repeated over and over and it's complete BS.He built an incredible golf course, but the walking rate to play Bandon in the summer is $325.The maintenance costs for the course is less than most $85 per round courses. They are charging $325 and making a killing. Good for them. But don't pretend like you have sacrificed profits for the average golfer because you haven't.It tarnishes the rest of the story which is a shame.

Great and easy read about the making of Bandon Dunes, the people and the twists and turns as the Resort has evolved to the current four 18's (and the fun to play 13 hole Preserve course). I just got back from golfing at Bandon Dunes and while reading the book I found myself comparing how I first felt when seeing the Resort, playing the courses and just taking in the whole place. A place for golfers by golfers!In particular, I really liked the hole by hole descriptions contained in the book and recalling how I played that particular hole or rather how I SHOULD have played that particular hole.I highly recommend this engaging book for anyone who enjoys golf and a good read.

This story of how Bandon dunes came to be is a fantastic read for those that are going to experience the resort for their first time and a way to familiarize yourself once again if you are returning. The insight into Mike Kiser and his reasoning are enlightening. I am returning for my 13th year in 6 days and after reading this I'm like a kid waiting for Santa to arrive. It seems it will never get here and always goes by way to fast.

Anyone who loves golf course architecture would likely enjoy this book. From the philosophy behind the construction to the different crews and architects involved, Bandon Dunes is a real triumph of love over money in building golf courses. I really enjoyed every part of this book, and am re-reading sections. What this man did is transcendent. I think this book captures that joy and sense of accomplishment everyone involved in the golf complex at Bandon Dunes must have. Only thing I could wish for would be hole diagrams and more pictures to go along with the story of the construction. But great read all the way to the end.

Quite simply, if you love golf architecture and are interested in how masterpieces like Bandon resort are created, you'll really enjoy this book. I found it a fascinating story of how someone can take a seemingly unusable piece of land in a hard to get to location and turn it into a near-religious destination for anyone deeply in love with the game of golf.

Fascinating story about the man who made Brandon Dunes and the other courses there possible, the risks, passion, and vision behind it. The end of the book lacks the gripping feel of the start - but I was glad to read it all.

Terrific read for anyone with even a passing interest in golf, particularly links golf. Provides a nicely condensed history of links golf in the United States written in an entertaining style along with a truly great American story of determination, risk taking and leveraging the collective spirit of everyone involved in building great golf courses accessible to all. A must read if you are planning a golfing trip to Bandon. This will make your visit all the more enjoyable and meaningful. Don't forget to bring a camera!

Love this book. It has inspired me to play golf differently by enjoying the thoughtfulness of shotmaking aligned with the designer’s intent.

I do think that this is a good book for learning about couture techniques and when to use them, but my point of contention is the fact that,There are few photos showing how to get the desired results and a lot of written text, which I think is not good for any book involving construction of sewing. More attention to photos and diagrams should have been placed.I feel like you can get some couture vocabulary down and when to use but I don't think the actual techniques can be easily replicated from the book without further demonstration from outside sources thus I am disappointed (actually extremely disappointed) in this book (Claire B Shaeffer knows her stuff, This would be a master to learn from). I was fully expecting a couture book that would constantly be opened on my sewing table but this is not it. I really hope this book is revised with a lot more step by step visuals thus making it accessible and a library keepsake.I am torn about reviewing because the couture techniques presented are used in the couturier houses and once mastered and applied correctly will give your garments amazing results, as well there are few books dedicated to the art of couture sewing-that actually have couture techniques but I do not think you will learn the how to from this book so I cannot give it more stars.I would have also liked to see some emphasizes on sewing those amazing unstructures of crinolines/hoops-how they differ from modern day as opposed to the olden times and of course best sewing practices. I see some of the dresses walk down the runway and I am always curious as to the production of them. I did not take off for that though as I understand an entirely different book may need to be dedicated towards the subject.Overall review of couture techniques yesHow to get the desired results no.Is It Worth It? 1. Better layout:The layout is so much better! Text is set in different colors to differentiate the content, tips, pull-out boxes, blurbs. This dramatically improves the book navigation!2. More Content:over thirty more pages of content added as a result of the author's recent research.3. More images:Claire added more images to illustrate instructions, and they are invaluable!4. Improved instructions:Clearly marked step-by-step instructions for all processes of couture construction. If you own the previous edition, you know how the instructions were presented in run-on paragraphs making it difficult to use the book as a quick reference.5. More how-to illustrations:6. Claire's Hints:Excellent short tips, mostly absent in the previous edition.7. contemporary couture techniques from the worksrooms of Ralph Rucci and James Galanos8. techniques by Mainbocher and Charles Frederick Worth: Shaeffer says in her acknowledgements that she worked on a research project that focused on Mainbocher and Worth. She seems to have added some of the new techniques as a result of this research9. New chapter "Designing with Fabric": Shaeffer introduced this chapter to demonstrate "a variety of design ideas and specific techniques to inspire you to use fabrics more creatively". A master of observation, Claire describes techniques used in haute couture garments by Antonio Canovas del Castilo, Hubert de Givenchy, Chanel, Worth, Hanae Mori, I. Magnin, Balenciaga, Victor Edelstein, These techniques are not necessarily obvious, but so easy to learn and to apply in your own garments. This is an amazing book the info and content terrific but the photographs and drawings have not been rescaled or compiled to be used on the kindle version. When you expand the photos to get the detail the author is discussing the resolution is poor and pixilated.It detracts from an otherwise good book. It doesn't do the format any credit either.

Can I arrange to *be* Ms Shaeffer in my next life. I so admire her skills; both sewing & writing SKILLS! Between #3 to 5 on my list as to what I’m leaving WITH in event of a fire. I would absolutely recommend this tome for any skilled sewer. Great reference. Will have no more than arms reach away while I am working on any garment of any type. The instructions are easily transferred to multiple types of sewing.
