For years I resisted buying these books because of my dislike for Bill O'Reilly who always impressed me as a pompous, arrogant jerk. But then I was at the hair salon and there was a book exchange shelf there and I started looking for something to read to pass the time. As usual, all the books were romance novels (not a fan) except for Killing the Rising Sun which I started reading and got drawn into- I took it home and finished it in a day or two. I enjoyed it enough so that I then ordered and read Killing Lincoln.These books are written in a way that makes the people and places come alive and don't become bogged down with too much dry data, facts and figures, etc. Of course, Bill O'Reilly doesn't do the actual writing himself since all these Killing books have another author listed in small print. In fact it looks like some of the newer ones have dropped the pretense of O'Reilly being one of the actual authors; although the books are still marketed with his name featured prominently on the cover they no longer say "by Bill O'Reilly" (see the Legends and Lies books). No matter- the two of these history books I have read are interesting and are quick reads. I am now reading a Bruce Catton civil war book now so that I can learn more about the war itself. I see that some of the one star reviews for the O'Reilly books complain about the inaccuracies and fictionalizing. I'm sure that's true- I'm no expert but when I went to look up more online about some of the conspirators in Lincoln's assasination, I noticed that the book had the pictures of Samuel Arnold and Michael O'Laughlen mistakenly labeled with each other's names. If this is one little mistake that I noticed, I'm sure there are others. But the bottom line is that Killing Lincoln is not a bad read and has sparked my interest in further reading about the Civil War.

In Killing Lincoln, the authors have assembled a jigsaw puzzle of historical pieces into a picture of human destiny fulfilled. That picture conveys the sense that this man whose life was cut short by a bullet would have put his imprimatur on the assassination if it meant sealing the unification of his country. This powerful message is subtly delivered by authors who possess a knack for infusing storytelling vitality into their narrative. Their subject matter expertise displays itself through a perceptive insight that uses attention to individual detail coupled with an astute recognition of coincidence. Fascinating historical testimonies and anecdotes are cleverly recounted and weaved together with an appreciative gusto that permeates the book. Simply put it is an enthralling account of historical data that makes one think.I recommend this book to all those who would like to be a 'fly on the wall' at some of Lincoln's most intimate moments and feel that they are present among the 'first responders' to history's signature moments. Most of all I would recommend this book to the introspective reader who will enjoy seeing the fabric of human destiny emerge before their mind's eye of cognition.

Well Bill does it again! Although I'm reading his books out of order, I still have to say that the writing style is great and I love the way he gives the facts. No games, just the facts mam... I always liked him as a news commentator, who knew he possessed this wonderful trait. I've read 4 of his books so far and I have to say that I was really surprised, because I liked KILLING PATTON, then REAGAN the best. I felt I really walked away with some invaluable information. On to KILLING THE RISING SUN! 🏯😉

Taut. Woven carefully with the quilt patches making an enchanting cover. We all know how it ends. It is how it was layed out and sewn together that producted the sad, tale of a life lost too soon. What evil lurks in the minds of men (and Mary Surratt)? I am satisfied to say this is a historical nonfiction thriller. It is not the scholarly research that produced Team of Rivals, etc.This book becomes a roller coaster after Lincoln's death in the chase that ensued to capture John Wilkes Booth and his band of merrymen. Then O'Reilly goes on to wrap up each participant and major player with epilogues to their lives. If interested in Lincoln I'd suggest pairing this with any of the other books that distinguish the life of this President.Book Club Selection

Overall, I did enjoy this book. The historical research is very impressive, especially the day to day accounts of the events. Also, I really enjoyed how the authors did mention some possibilities of conspiracy because we all know that the theories are out there and it's nice to see where they could possibly originate from. However, I did not see what the point was in spending basically the whole first third of the book detailing battles at the end of the war. I see that they were trying to set it up for showing us how a nation was torn apart and Lincoln was under such stress and so on, but it went on a little too long for my tastes. On the other hand, I also felt that from Lincoln's shooting to the end of the book was a little rushed, maybe due to the first half at least, being pretty slow in my opinion. Overall, I would recommend it to someone interested in history, though probably not to a generic reader. I think a lot of this books claim to fame is it's author and publicity. I enjoyed this book on the whole, but was honestly just expecting a little more page-turning excitement.

I've read a couple other of the Bill O'Reilly 'Killing so and so' books. I find them all pretty interesting, and enlightening on topics that I otherwise wouldn't know much about .However, you must keep a grain of salt in mind while reading any of these books. They tend to jump to conclusions, some far-fectched, and you tend to feel a little rushed through the details. This, and all the other "Killing" books are great starter books into the topics, but anyone who is serious about understanding the history of Lincoln and his assassination will know to read elsewhere into more substantiated books.

I believed my mother but seeing it as a book cemented that idea; so, I dove right in.Dr. Natasha Janina Valdez, a licensed clinical sexologist, introduces the reader to women's sexuality and explains the health benefits to orgasms. As a well-read, sex-positive woman I didn't learn anything that was new although, had I been a "beginner," her explanations were a perfect introduction to the woman exploring herself.She places great emphasis on self-love which is wonderful. Too many women are devoid of self-love and Valdez is determined to make women comfortable with their bodies. The book was well organized but I found that a lot of the ideas were repeated. Now, this could be a good thing as this book was dedicated to a beginner but I wanted something more. I do commend her for encouraging women to show their lover (she uses the male pronoun when she talks about a woman's partner) how they like to be touched. This can strengthen a relationship and bring both partners pleasure they didn't know they could have.Overall, the idea was great and her advocacy for women to explore their bodies and find what they like was very sex-positive. For a woman who is in the process (or about to start) of making herself into a orgasmic woman, this book is a must. For those who already know their likes and dislikes, this is a good reminder.

Book arrived with binding coming off and falling apart.

I've ridden for decades--trails, low-level jumping & dressage, obstacles--but never started a horse from scratch. Now having two 22mo old geldings that I took on as orphan foals at 2wks of age, I've been doing tons of in-hand work on basics, obstacles, little trails, etc. This pair of books ("101..." plus the illustrated hardback text that is paired with it)is perfect for me/us right now. Because I've never done much longeing, and nothing with side-reins, surcingles, cavessons, long lines, etc, the detailed instruction on minutiae of how to hold or fasten things, and alternative types of tack, was particularly useful. The graded exercises started with 10-12 things we had gotten quite proficient at in-hand (eg, head down, whoa & stand, turn on forehand, sidepass), but quickly moved on to things I've never done, and my "boys" certainly haven't. I really appreciate Hill's focus on safety & on potential problems & their prevention & solutions--the kinds of things you get from a good trainer with lots of experience, so you can potentially avoid problems.

Cherry Hill's book take the horseman by the hand and allows he/she to understand what new things to try to change ones horse's behavior. Then, it is just up to the horseman's imagination and energy to implement and modify the techniques for their situation. I'd recommend all of Cherry Hill's products. Her methods compliment Clinton Anderson's techniques to allow the horseman to balance their approach.

For the past several months, I've been attending a mom's group at church and one day they were giving away the Jesus Calling devotional by Sarah Young. I hadn't heard of this author before and I was very interested in the devotionals. When I started searching Sarah Young on here, I came across the Jesus Always devotional as one of the top results since it is a new release. Having no experience with this author, I decided to take a chance and purchase it since I had heard great things about this author.Jesus Always: Embracing Joy in His Presence is a new devotional by missionary Sarah Young. The devotions included in this book and her other books are her personal thoughts and reflections. She writes in this introduction to Jesus Always that this book was a "marathon" for her since she worked on it for several years while living in Australia. After traveling for awhile and dealing with illness, Sarah Young strives to find joy in her everyday life so she wrote this particular devotional with that in mind. She writes these devotionals from the perspective of Jesus speaking to us as we read them. She also includes some Scriptures which are italicized and a few Bible references at the bottom so you can look those up if you'd like.Jesus Always is 384 pages long, with one-page devotions for every day of the year, including February 29th. The book measures 4 1/4 inches by 6 1/4 inches by 1 inch. It has a hard, yet puffy, purple cover and the pages are smooth and slightly glossy. Included with the book is an attached ribbon bookmark so you can keep your place.I love this devotional and find that no matter what my day is like, that particular day's devotion is so fitting and exactly what I need to hear. I might be having a great day or a difficult day and reading this seems to relax and refocus me. It also helps me to slow down and remind me of what's important. I do my best to read it daily but it doesn't always happen. I love that I can read the devotion for one particular day or just flip it open to whatever one I'd like. It's the perfect size to stick in your purse if you need something positive and uplifting to read when you are at work or out and about and it makes a great gift. I bought this for myself and purchased one for a good friend who loves it as well! I ended up purchasing Jesus Calling and Jesus Today, both by Sarah Young, because I love this book so much! Whether or not you are familiar with this author, this is a devotional I'd highly recommend if you are looking for one for yourself or a loved one!

This is absolutely the best devotional that I've ever read. I used it on a daily basis. I loved it so much that I bought books to give away at a conference where I presented in a women's workshop. My topic dealt with personal devotions.Every woman that I know who reads this devotional is as excited about it as I am.I spoke with a male friend who was going through some issues. I shared with him a part of the devotion that I read for that day.I noticed a few days later, that he was also sharing the book with friends.Sarah Young is definitely a gifted writer. Reading this book helps me to easily experiencel the presence of Jesus.There is nothing in the book that I didn't like.

This 365-day devotional is written in the usual Sarah Young-style in the voice of Jesus. Yes, some people may feel this is heretic but these devotionals use scripture to help the reader understand and feel God’s Word as if it’s coming directly from Him. As usual, Sarah Young doesn’t put loose words in and ascribe them to Jesus, everything is biblical and there are scriptures to back up every devotional.I used this devotional in 2017, having been excited to find that Sarah Young had done a new devotional in 2016. Prior to this, I’d done 2 back-to-back cycles of Jesus Calling (2015 and 2016) and before that I’d gone through Jesus Today a few of times. Although I really enjoyed this 365-day devotional and the additional month and a half of bonus content and found it to be a blessing, I didn’t feel it was as impactful to my heart as Jesus Calling was or as healing and encouraging to my soul as Jesus Today. There’s nothing wrong with this devotional, it’s just that unlike, Jesus Calling, I didn’t necessarily feel like it spoke to me personally everyday and after finishing it, I didn’t feel the “I want to do this again this year” that I felt with Jesus Calling. This is still a very good 365-day devotional and definitely worth giving a try.

I have started my day with these books for several years. Whatever is happening in my life, whatever worries or joys are on my mind, there is something in each devotional to meet me where I am. These small readings are encouraging, and leave space as you are reading them for your own meditations to weave through them, your own prayers. In these quietly encouraging and gently prodding writings, I find a good beginning to every day, no matter what.

A co-worker let me read the message written for that day and it blew me away. I was going through a time of confusion and sadness related to my health. I immediately bought a copy for myself. Each day has an uplifting, inspiring message and it's written in a way where it feels like the message is just for me. I try to read it every morning and highlight the areas that stand out. One thing that I really appreciate is that the author, Ms. Young, includes at the bottom of each page where in the Bible the message is coming from. Not to spoil one of the messages, but one that really helped me stated that we'll have more peace when we see and understand that ALL problems are temporary. I've been living by this fact and it has helped me to have a better outlook on life.I bought a copy for my mother and a friend at church and the love it. I think it's a must have for every Christian and anyone who wants to better understand God's plan for our lives.
